Canon IXY 800 IS problem with connecting to computer
So, I bought this new Canon IXY 800 IS, and I love it. BUT, the only problem is when I installed the software on my computer, I plugged in the camera, and the transfer software came up, and when it said it was connecting to the device, it froze. I tried several times, same result. PLEASE HELP!

You can go to the website of canon and get the drivers in the Support and Download Menu. Just select the correct model number and install it in your computer. After installing it, it is better that you have tech software to keep them updated. You don't want to keep outdated drivers in your computer. They would mess up the whole system. Install RadarSync to keep them updated.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa.
Find a few Canon repair shops, and describe them your problem, and they should be able to give you rough estimates. I've had estimates for same mechanical problem from $200 to $15.
If you are adventurous (and the manufacturer's warranty is expired), remove all the tiny screws, and see if this is something simple, and you can tell repairman what specific part you need - their estimate will be more accurate that way.
