SOURCE: DVD VCR combo has no power
I found out what the issue was with my Samsung DVD-V5500. It was the rectifier diode on the 15V tap of the high frequency transformer. This is the same issue that someone else with a later model V5600 had talked about. The diode had shorted and behaved like a piece of wire.
Seems to be a bit of weak point in the power supply. The issue can be diagnosed by using a multimeter to measure the resistance between the diode cathode and ground. If the meter is measuring 1 Ohm between the cathode and ground, your diode needs replacing. I just replaced it with a UF4003 diode from Jaycar, which is basically an Ultra Fast 200V 1A diode suitable for switching the high frequency (20-30kHz) output from the transformer.
The diode is located at the rear right hand corner of the board on the output of the power supply section. A picture below shows the new diode between orientated east-west between the large capacitors. The original diode that failed was an SHG2D SHS.

SOURCE: Can't switch from AV2 to AV1 with Samsung DVD-VR375 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo
To be able to select AV1, you have to first go into the setup menu and set the control set top box setting to OFF. I think you go to the menu >> setup >> features >> set top box control >> select OFF. Note that this has the side effect of erasing any previously stored timer settings.

SOURCE: Need Comcast Remote Code for Samsung DVD-V1000
I just programmed my comcast remote for my Samsung v1000, My comcast remote is very similar to the 3-in-1, but has a few more buttons on it (on the Comcast site, my remote looks like the DVR 3 remote, but I don't have a DVR). The code I used was 21044.
By using this code, the play/stop/rewind/ff buttons all work. I didn't test the record button. The Info button worked as "Display" and Exit button to work as Audio Source (HiFi/Mono). However, the Volume and Channel controls did not work.
I hope this helps.
