DVD/CD rom not working

Cd draw opens and shuts but want play anything on cds or dvds

It used to work fine, now it will only play certain dvds! its so annoying! what can i do?

Check to see what formats are compatible with your player, next check that youve seated all cables correctly and have the latest drivers installed. also, if this a recently working drive that went bad, the lens may need to be cleaned or it might be dead. If this is a new drive, it may not work with your computer.

I have bought a Super slim external USB portable 24x CD-ROM for my Dell notebook. I can't get DVD's to play on it. The laptop recognises the removable device but there is no option to play the disc. Can...

CD ROM drive will play only 700 mb CD disks(normal CDs)...and not play DVD disks...u need DVD ROM drive to play DVDs....there is a big difference among both in it's function.
a DVD drive "may" play both DVDs and CDs....
but
a CD drive will "only" play CDs

A CD-Rom will only recognize CD's. It must be a DVD-ROM to recognize DVD's. DVD-ROM will recognize CD's ,but not the other way around. No drivers needed for thes, they are plug and play.

Will write dvds but not cds ??

Try using nero to burn, be sure to select cd as the type of media... e.g Start > all programs >> nero >> data >> nero express .. Then
select cd, data cd,, drag some pics across and burn it.. If that dont work.. i hope u got warrenty... or if you wish to keep trying let me know
