Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
This problem first occured 2 weeks ago, then everything was fine, but today it happened twice, it did this whilst i was playing a game.. what the hell is going on?
I went with the eraser fix and it worked like a charm. Can anybody explain why using erasers changes things and makes the 360 work without the 3 red lights flashing? Just Curious!

I have fixed about 400 xbox 360's to date
various things Sound but no picture, 3 Rings of death, E74 one red light in bottem right of circle
The problem lies under the heat sinks ( Crappy Chips )
the 360 heats up so much it flex's the motherboard thus Desoldering itself :|
I have fixed using various ways
NEVER EVER EVER DO THE TOWEL TRICK this heats up stuff that dont need to be heated and also is only a temp fix if you get more then a few days out of it consider yourself lucky
You can buy a kit off ebay 8 bolts and 32 washers this fix works well.
This is how i fix them (even the stubben ones )
first take apart the xbox ( Youtube it there all other it )
take out the board from the case remove the xclamps off the back I use a pair of croc pliers with a little bend in the end
once there removed the heat sinks can be taken off remove them and then clean the chips off to a mirror finish
i use a old snip off a plastic credit card and some heat sink compound cleaner
polish up the chip face's once all the old compound is removed.
then clean off the compound on the 2 heat sinks ( best to scrap the bulk off with that trusted old credit card then wipe with compound removers to get a nice clen flat service ) also take off the 4 feet that are on the heatsinks.
put 2 washers onto each of the bolts and then put the bolts through the holes that the heat sink feet sat .
then put 2 more washers onto the bolts once they are through the holes .
put some fresh heat sink compound ( Artic Silver ) dont smoother it i put a blob on and spread it over the chips face's.
then resit the heat sinks back ontop of the bolts and screw down ( Not real tight but... tight enough )
what i do next is put it on my kitch side ( any flat top ) plug the av cable and power in then put the powerswtch face on and turn it on 80% of the times u get green striaght away if u dont then leave it powered on check it after a few minutes make sure BOTH heat sinks are geting hot and leave till the lights flash from 3 right lights to 2 red lights ( over heating it resolders the chip ) turn off from plug as you wont be able to switch off from power button.
allow to cool down and then retest you should get then green light and box will be good to go
i fixed my first box 2 years ago and it still works to this day :) using ruffly the same method FAR MORE long winded then this repair
this repair can be done under 30 minutes.
Hope this is clear enough for people to follow
any help needed

You have the red ring of death if there are three bars. if there are 4 you did not connect the wires for the xbox the right way try unpluging every thing and let it cool to prevent this from happening to move the xbox or vibrate it when its hot

I'm a 13 year old kid and I had the same problem my dad tried everything to fix it nothing worked, anyways if you know how to take it apart good if you don't go look on you tube. To fix it get eletrical tape, 8 pennies, silver thermal compound and trust me it will work. Take the 360 apart take the white plastic thing out unplug the disk drive, only were it conects to the motherboard and unplug the fan. The fan has to come out from the top first because thats were the fan locks in. After doing that unscrew the little chip on the outside of the metal housing pull it out, now unscew the motherboard take it out of the metal housing very carefully because there are little metal prongs. Once the motherboard is out put it upside down see those big band-aid things take them off because those little things are what causes the problem. Take the thermal compound put a little tiny dot on each of the 4 chips rub the thermal compound with you finger to coat all of the chips, now get the tape and pennies grab two pennies and put them together rap the tape tightly around two times are so and rap them again on the other side to seal the square shape, also do that with the other pennies when done place one of the pack of pennies on the chip do that with the other 3 throw away the band-aid things and when putting the 360 back together makesureyou keep it upside down till you screwed the metal housing back on. Then put it all back together the same way you took it apart. There's a catch though you have to play it laying down do not stand it up otherwise you have the same problem. But I'm serious trust me it will work mine has been working for 2 years so far.

Look for the TOWEL TRICK, it works. I tried it and it will work/play games again. I've done it about three times in three months but it has saved me money since they want to charge me to fix it. Look it up and give it a try or send it in to tech support and let them fix it. Good luck from a xbox gamer.
