I have a compaq presario. The monitor stopped working and I started checking to see if it went bad. I put it on another PC and it works like a charm. I then put another monitor that I KNOW works and attached it to the compaq but it too does not come on. The power light will light up and in two seconds it clicks off as if its asleep. The keyboard sleepmode light lights up. I know that its not the monitor. I do not know what the graphics card looks like. I found two things that look like memory and clip in like memory but instead of being near the back of the computer on the mother board they are near the front and go up and down rather than horizontal. I think they may be what is called the sound card or video card. I just don't know where to go from here. I did take the CD and DVD (which I recently added) and disconnected them. The monitor still doesn't come on. I dont know if I should try to disconnect the hard drive and try it but someone said it might be the video card...I just don't know where it is or what it looks like..or if that sounds like the problem...like I said the monitor comes on when attached to another computer and when I attach a good monitor to the compaq then it will not come on either...Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated...

yes videos do go bad i would recommend trying someones video card in your computer as there could be many thing up with your computer such as your motherboard could have died or proccessor or even ram would stop your computer from showing on your screen
sorry i couldnt assist you more but there are so many parts to a computer which would need to be tested to veryfy the fault. (it another graphics card works in your computer then it was your graphics card).
Do you see the BIOS splash screen or anything?
Try booting into safe mode by pressing F* as soon as you power on the computer. If the monitor works, then it is a bad driver. Roll back to a previous restore point, boot to last known good coonfiguration. Last Known good configuration is available from the same as the safe mode screen.

i also have a compaq presario f572us that's been having similar problems. when i went onto the hp website i saw that apparently they've been having similar problems with this type of computer as they offer free repairs for 2 years after you bought it. you should probably check if this works for you too
Unplug power cable from of the PC. Then hold power button in for 30 seconds, this will drain the capacitors, then plug back in the power cable see if this helps, if not could power supply, or video card.
Doesn't turn on (power), or will not display anything?
Bad memory chips will cause the display to be inoperable. I once put PC-2700 chips in a laptop that would only take PC-2100. The chips I received were wrong, but I didn't check before installng them. Anyway, it worked like a champ for about 5 mo. Then the display went out. I could tell that the computer was still operating, so I sent it back for warranty repair. Of course, the chips were aftermarket, so it wasn't covered under warranty, but that was the problem.
I forgot to add that I am using windows ME.
