When the unit was about 2 weeks old, started getting occasional case of charge not lasting long enough to finish shaving. Happened several times. Sent to repair center; took 3 weeks while waiting on parts. Got it back and seemed to be working OK. Now, started same thing again. Repair center said they replaced chassis and battery. Works OK if use the cord all the time, but I bought it t use without the cord, except to charge. Seems like this model is a lemon.
It's the holiday season - take it back to where ever it was purchased and tell them you got it for Christmas and you would just like to exchange it for one that works. They have a 2 year warranty, if you want to go the hard way. You won't need a receipt, or a box. I spoke with Braun Customer Service and they advised me to just take, the one I had, back to the store where it was purchased, and get a new one. This is a great time of the year to exchange it. The Braun Customer Service number is 1-800-BRAUN-11. I'm glad, I just exchanged the one I had, because, my father says it's the best shave he has ever had.

Well, back to repair again. This time they tell me it needs a new pc board, and Braun is having a hard time getting them from their supplier; no idea when they can get the part from Braun.
Customer Service is no help. They say they can't do anything until it has been at repair center for more than 30 days awaiting parts. Not going to get any help there.
My advice is to buy someone else's shaver; definitely avoid the 5790. I don't know what other models may share this same pc board.
So, here we have a bad product and poor customer service. Fortunately, Braun is not the only electronics maker around.
I had the same problem. This morning (Christmas) the shaver was completly dead. No lights, no charge -- will not even work when the cord is plugged in!!! I love my Braun electric shaver, but I am very dissapointed with the short life I got our my particular razor, which I estimate to be about 2 years.
