Plug your iPod to your computer and open iTunes, if iTunes doesn't open automatically. If there is a new version of the firmware for your iPod, then iTunes gives you a pop-up message saying so.
Click "Update" if there is a newer version of the iPod firmware available to download.
If there is no new firmware, or you want to downgrade the firmware, then skip this step. Download the iPod firmware you want to reprogram you iPod with from the Internet. Websites such as Modifymyi, iClarified and Felixbruns (see Resources at bottom).
Right-click on the "Restore" button in iTunes and select the firmware for the iPod that you downloaded.
ITunes then backs up the music in your iPod, reprograms the iPod with the new firmware and then restores your iPod. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=757 http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ hope this helps
