There are three differetn part numbers listed for this part. It may depend upon the serial number. I would suggest that you check with a local Sony distributor to see if the one listed below will work for your unit. The part number and approximate cost is listed below.
Please note that this is the only one that is still available.

My marshall classic reverb 30 makes sound some times and some times when you play with the volume knob it stops

The volume control knob PROBABLY is broken, dirty or has bad soldering to the circuitry.

Use some CRC226 in the control if dirty. While you have the unit apart, check the soldering and for any circuit board cracks.

Yamaha RX-V800 volume knob on receiver not working.

It sounds like the volume control pod has gone bad and needs replaced (The knob shaft connects to the pod main body and the inside of the volume pod is what controls the rate of volume,If the inside becomes worn ,broken or dirty the volume will become erratic) Replace volume pod ! ..You may try cleaning by taking off the volume knob and getting a can of pressure air and blowing the dust out!

Broken volume knob

I located the remote control for the unit and it works fine. As the unit is not the primary amplifier for the home stereo system, I use the remote to control the volume. Thank you for your quick responce, and I will keep you in mind for any future needs.

Logitech S500 Volume Knob Broken

The simplest thing to try is some compressed air directed to the knob. This would clear out any dust or dirt that may be obstructing the knob. I am not sure what you mean by power cut so I am shooting in the dark here. If you mean a power surge that caused the volume to quit working then I would suggest an external volume control such as http://www.amazon.com/Koss-155954-VC20-Volume-Control/dp/B00001P4XH/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-2257004-6895258?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1194009359&sr=8-2
