Check Device Manager in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Right click My Computer > Manage. Select Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices. Now delete all DVD/CD-ROMs and reboot. Windows will say "New Hardware Found" and install.

I have a Sony DVD/CD Rewritable drive that tries to eject but doesn't. It is model # DW-D22A. Is this a problem I might be able to fix or would I be better off getting a new drive?

It may have a jam, there is a small pin hole under the tray usually on the right side.. straighten out a paper click and press it in there with some force. This is the manual eject. See if it resumes normal operation after that.

Sony dvd+rw dw d56a plays cd's. doesn't see dvd's at all. I hear the disc spinning. Doesn't see it. control panel - double clicked on drive - nothing

It is possible that there could be some garbage in the processor do to a small power surge and if you unplug the unit from the wall for 40Min., it will reset back to normal.

Laptop Disk Drive want reject.

If you mean the CD or DVD drive,,,then you can take a paper clip and bend it straight,,then put the paper clip into the tiny hole in the front of the CD tray and gently push,,,this will open the tray enough for you to grip it by hand and pull it out the rest of the way.

Unable to copy dvd's

Most dell machines do no come with dvd rewriting as standard. They only come with cd rewriting capability. Unless you specifically requested it as an add on to the spec it probably just has the ability to pay dvd's.

Most internet cafe's will have a machine with a dvd rewriter if you really need to copy a dvd

Reads and writes cds, reads dvds but does not burn dvds,

This drive is normally supplied with a couple of Dells.
(because of compatibility) Inspiron 700m,710m

If you have another machine for testing?
check the disk for contents to see if the data burn happened,
this will explain a few things in your processes.

Uninstall/Reinstall the drive and reboot then try again.

Have you tried a full system reinstall yet?
Did it fix your problem? Please let me know thanks

Sony DVD-RW DW-D56A drive playing up

I am not posting a solution, but may be the same problem.
I have dell inspiron 510m with DVD - RW sony A 56
It had burnt one DVD till now, but it can NOT burn any more DVDs.
I have tried burning using windows XP-SP2, Nero 6, Nero 8, burn my files 3.01 BUT no use. The only thing I got is different error messages.
I changed many types of DVD-Rom, from sony, benq..trying to rule out the storge media itself as source of error, but again no use.
Astonishingly, it works a CD-ROM Burner very well.
Any suggestions?

My DVD Rom wont open

You can get the DVD out by putting a pin into the little hold on the other side of the eject button. Try putting an audio CD into the drive and see if it recognizes it. If it won't see anything and there's no light, it's probably broken and time for a trip to the computer repair shop of your choice.
