SOURCE: replaced alternator and battery is good but not charging

I found the problem YEAH. It was the fuse that is in the side of the fuse box under the hood, Its where the battery wire from the alternator connects thru a fuse to go to the battery, Its one hundred and something volt fuse. It took care of the problem instantly.... Thank you all for your replies...

you may have a bad plug wire to the back of the alternator you can test that with a light tester but when you replace a alternator in a diesel at start up it takes about 35 secands before the unit will kick on

SOURCE: replaced alternator on 1985 Ford Bonco 4X4 302

turn your vehicle on, disconnect the battery, both terminals(while truck is still on) if it dies on you, then either the alternator is bad or wiring is wrong. if it stays on, then you may have a bad battery or voltage regulator. Check the voltage on the battery before you turn it on(should be from 11.5v-12v), when you turn it on if the alternator if working properly you should have around 13v-14v.

SOURCE: dodge neon 2002. My alternator is not charging,

wires run direct to alternator from battery ,test big lead for a permanant 12v supplyon the back of the alternator if you have one then the problem is either the brushes worn out or the commutator worn through.or the regulator either way its a recon unit as parts are not sold seperate anymore as not many dealer mechanics know how to repair anything and the spares shops make more profit on a unit than parts so they do not sell spares to stop people like me and you from doing our own repairs

I need a fusebox diagram for my 1979 Ford thunderbird

lost the glove box users guide after 41 years? sure.
no problem told at all , some cars have fuses not in the box.
the left side drivers kick panel box>? that? or?
some are fuses, and others are CB , circuit breakers. some are fuseable links, one is below. or CB
eg:
Headlight and High Beam-one 22 amp circuit breaker incorporated in the lighting switch.
the drivers box is marked at each fuse. or seen just left of steering column under a cover.
fuse : dasy
#6 headlamps.
#3 turns and backup lamps
#5 hazards and stops
CB 20amp power seats and CB20 to door locks.
fuselink to IGNition switch
fuse link into and out of AMMETER GAUGE and to alternator
replacing alternator and not pulling battery cables first blows up the fuselink just above. (see schematics its all there)
fuse
#2 is AC controls
#8 AC clutch

why not get the service manual, and read it.
all fuse devices are there and full schematics
wiring.

I have a 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L V8 Magnum. 119,040 Miles I'm having a problem with the alternator continuing to charge my battery

NOT THE VAN but PEEEKUPs
and old car and old alernators and gee old cars have wrong parts here seen it vast times, and know why it fails all ways it can.

13.4 to 15vdc running above 800 or at RPM is normal not less.
there 3 kinds of ALT for 25 years.
1 wire (means reg is in the ALT )
external reg type and last (old old old)
and ECU has the regulator. modern cars most are this.
i will now read your service many too , chapter.

question1:
does the dash have the Idiotttt lap called charge
and if burned out many cars then ,made the boot trap current dead in the alternator making the alternator regulator inside dead.
born dead, unit lamp fixed or forced to excite as you just did.
that is correct removing alternator in any car with main battery connected does in fact blow up the 2 huge fuses, in bay or the fuselink, saving harness fire. alt to main harness. large wire.

i can not find an accurate schematic for this alt.

but buying shows is external reglator, only at delco
the alt rear has 2 lugs (+ out) field + and field -) and must not be reversed, and may need polarizing and not down backwards.

how hint #1 seen on the web (I have no PCM schematic sorry)

The alternator on your Dodge Ram pick-up (except diesel) is computer controlled. To be a bit more specific, the alternator's voltage regulator is located inside the PCM.
Besides the voltage regulator, the PCM also uses a Battery Temperature Sensor (BTS) to control the alternator and this bad boy (the BTS) is also part of the internal circuitry of the PCM. In other words, this sensor is also part of the PCM. Its job is to sense battery temperature so that the PCM can adjust the alternator's charging rate.

oops found this, 5 things to fail includes PCM
2 fuses, and ASD relay and ALT,.
pcm-undefined-undefined-0_1.jpg this what modern cars do now. and makes the battery last longer with way smarter PCM controls.

1996 Dodger Ram battery drains

Seen this "mystery drain" many times. Check spark at the battery to see how big the drain is. For this simple test, blow away any (explosive) battery charging fumes. Leave one terminal on and gently touch the other to its post in fairly dark surroundings. Then try it again with the wires taken off the alternator. Your spark is now probably much less. Usually bad diodes leaking electricity backwards through the alternator cause this drain. Replace the alternator or the diode pack inside it. Some mechanics recommend actually measuring the drain.... hahaha. OK whatever.

2002 Accord 4cl sedan alternator problems. I got a new alternator, battery charged at full (12.6v), I changed the wire harness and my battery power is draining when I turn on the car. Can someone help me...

There should be a 100amp fuse in the box near the battery for the main circuit between the alternator and battery. The engine computer controls output.
If the fuse has power you may need a shop to check the charging system.

84 dodge ram battery wont charge

If it has a voltage regulator it should get power from the key switch to the field wire on the regulator.
You should have battery voltage at the big wire on the alternator with the key off.
I would check for a fuseable link between the alternator and the battery first.

Battery wont hold a charge and when i turned my head lights on my truck died and wouldnt charge

there is a fusible link in series with one of the wires on the alternator.it is called a feedback .if the fuselink blows open,it does not give a signal to switch on the alternator.the fuselink looks like a regular wire.check the output terminal on the alternator ,it should be putting out 14.2 volts or so,when the engine is running.if the alternator is not working, your truck is running only off the battery, and when a load is put on it,the voltage is dropping, and is to low to sustain the ignition system.the feedback wire is located on the small plug with 3 wires on the alternator.

Fusible link wire gets really hot.

Removing the two smaller wires stops the exciter current to the alt which stops it charging.
Usually if a wire is getting hot its because:
A: Current overload..
B: Corrosion in wire restricting current.
C: Corroded terminal.

Hello my name is Floyd and I have a 1984 dodge ram d150 and I have a promblem with my alternator it is getting to hot and blowing up my battery and now I might have other promblems possible with wiring,...

it sounds like your alternator is putting out to much juice, you would proberly have to hook it up to a machine that tells you how many volts it is putting out and most of the auto part. stores will check it out for free.
