You cannot receive fax using this printer, because this printer doesn't support fax sending/receiving. Only fax supported printers can receive fax documents. You will know if a printer is fax support if you see a Fax button there or if you can see a numpad buttons where you can dial numbers.
Does the machine print anything? such as a directory or print when making a copy? I rather suspect it does not. When an incoming fax is recvd does the paper get pulled in and come out blank? If so your problem is with printing (or lack of it). Perform head cleaning. Also make sure the black cartridge still does not have its deal stuck on it. Post again if you still have problem.
Generally the "received in memory" message is a result of the machines inability to print. I.E. It received a fax, attempted to print it, failed, and then stored it in memory to print once the issue has been corrected.
The Prepare Black Toner error is likely directly related. If the toner cartridge is empty, inserted incorrectly, or damaged it could be causing this error. Try reseating the cartridge by removing and reinserting. If that doesn't clear the error try replacing it with a new Canon branded cartridge.
As soon as you correct the printing issue the stored faxes will print.
Set the fax machine to AUTO reception. Next, you
would want to set the proper settings in your Option Set List. To print
a list press the FUNCTION key, the number 2 key, then press the # key
until it reads OPTION SET LIST in the LCD screen and press the START
key. This will print your list. The following settings should be seen:
Number of Rings 1 to 4 rings (setting #2) Dial Mode- TONE (setting #8)
TAD Connected- OFF (setting #9) * Quiet Detect Time- 04 seconds
(setting #10) * Distinctive Ringing- OFF (setting #12) **
Let us know if this doesn''t fix it... we can go from there!
Contact Lexmark and get updated firmware - had this problem on an X342n unit yesterday and applying an update (now shows firmware LC.MD.P114 ), faxes started receiving properly.
One of the received faxes sitting in memory is a different size page to that set for the fax machine. Unfortunately, Brother never recognised this as a possibility (Neither did Canon on some of their machines) You will have to do a completye machine reset (maintenance mode 91 and reset with 99)
TYPICALLY A FAX MACHINE WILL RECEIVE MESSAGE IN MEMORY WHEN NO PAPER OR TONER/INK FINISHED INDICATION IS THERE, REPLENISH THESE SUPPLIES WITH GENUINE ONES AND FAX WILL START PRINTING.
IF PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED , PLEASE TRY TO CLEAR THE SETTING FOR MEMORY RECEIVING,
IF STILL NOT SOLVED TRY BRINGING THE MACHINBE TO FACTROY SET SETTING BY CLEARING THE MEMORY.
HAPPY FAXING
