I've been hacked

Hi, I opened a file from a peer to peer program (Yeah, stupid I know)and it would appear that my Hard Drive has been completely wiped and replace with some very unpalatable images. I have tried a complete reinstallation, but I keep getting the message 'Windows cannot start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem,' I have run the diagnostics disc, but it shows nothing. Short of buying a new hard drive is there anything else I can try?

Many thanks. I have reformatted and re partioned the drive and reinstalled again and it seems to be going well.

If I have any more problems I'll get back.

You should first check in your BIOS set up menu that nothing has changed relating to the hard drive. depending on the motherboard/BIOS you have this can normally be accessed by pressing and holding left shift, or delete, or f8 when the machine is starting up. Please post back with more details of your system if you need more help with this It is unlikely that your hard drive is unuseable, but data could well be lost - possibly easily retrieved by a data recovery application - depends how important the data was Hope this helps, please post back if you need more:)
