Re: The Printer Cartridge Is no being read
Most of the time with HP printers thats a problem with the actual cartridge itself.
What you can do is try a different cartridge(try an old one that was good, doesn't matter if it's empty).
If that dowsn't help the printer might require a technician to check the sensors!

Please remove the cartridges from the printer. Take a dry lint free paper towel and gently wipe the contacts on the back of the cartridge (not the bottom from where ink is present). Wipe the contacts inside the printer (on cartridge carrier). Please snap the cartridges back into the cartridge carrier and please try to print a printer self test. Good Luck!!!!
This can be one out of two things. Either a faulty cartridge, or the cartridge holder. If you still have the old cartridge, insert that one. If now it only displays 'Cartridge Empty', it means that the printer can see the cartridge, and it's your new cartridge that is faulty. If it's still showing Cartridge Missing, it's most likely your printer that is faulty. In either case, you should contact Lexmark Technical Support and they'll provide you with a solution.
You can also try cleaning the contacts in your cartridge Holder with a dry cloth.
You should probably buy a new cartridge. But, before doing that, you can try to remove the cartridge and clean all the contacts with a dry cloth. You can do the same with the electronic in your printer (the one on the cartridge carrier). If that doesn't work, might be that one of the wires on the cartridge's electronic has blown, and now the printer can't recognize it, and it says that it is "missing". Happens all the time. Usually, you can't print anything when this happens. Sadly, the only solution in that case, is to buy a new cartridge.
Exchange the cartridge for another new Lexmark cartridge. I think Lexmark printers have gotten so finicky about kicking out refills that they sometimes reject original cartridges. I own a cartridge refilling store and I've had a couple original Lexmark cartridges returned because the printers didn't recognize them.
Just a shot in the dark, was it a refilled ink cartridge. I know HP has a problem detecting the remanufactured cartridges from time to time. And too, if it is not refilled cartridge perhaps you just have a bad cartridge. Oh, of course Julie remembered to pull the tape off of the bottom of the ink cartridge, correct? Hope this did some good, please leave rating, thank you kindly.
The electronics are bad on your compatible and your printer can't recognize it's there. Return this cartridge and get your money back. The next cartridge you buy, ask if the electronics have been tested to be functional. I recommend refils from Cartridge World or Office Depot.
In my experience I've never come across an error #12 on a X4270. I've seen an error 1200 & error 1203 a couple of times. Did you get this error after installing a new cartridge? then there are chances that the new cartridge that you installed is defective. The best way to figure if out is to take both the cartridge out and power recycle the printer with the cartridge out. Check out if the operator panel says "cartridge missing" when it is powered back on. If it doesn't say "cartridge missing" then the printer hardware is defective. You would need to get it serviced. If the printer comes up with "cartridge missing" message, then either one of the two carts that you have is defective. I would suggest you to insert one cart first and close the cover and check if it says "cartridge missing" If it does come up with that message then insert the other cart too.. If you get Error 1203 on after inserting a cart, then that cart is defective and needs to be replaced.
