Sears/Craftman K1026 6/94 139.53779, HBW0709 That's all the info on the remote. Remote will open, but not close the garage door. Button on wall will close it only if I hold it till door touches the ground. When I try to close it with the remote, the light flashes and it tries to start but that's the extent of it. Nothing is blocking the sensors. Tried to set the remote following the directions on the motor, no luck HELPSears/Craftman K1026 6/94 139.53779, HBW0709 That's all the info on the remote. It could be the garage door motor that is acting up. Try closing it with the button in the garage. If that's not the case, you may need a different garage door opener.
The remotes use a receiver to actuate the door and the wall control does not. It sounds like your logic board is bad. Maybe a lightning storm recently? Try removing the board and look for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit.
You need to reprogram the remotes by briefly pushing the learn button on the garage door opener until it flashes once, then release the button on the garage door opener.
Now press the remote button once until you hear the garage door opener click, now press the remote button once again and the remote should be programmed to work for that garage door opener.
DO NOT press and hold the garage door opener learn button for more than 10 seconds or you'll erase all programs and have to relearn all the remotes, including your car ones.
Hope you found this very helpful and best regards.
Both the remote and the manual button once set a relay that applied power until the door had reached one or the other 'stops.'
That relay, or the transistor that controls it, has failed, making it necessary to keep the relay powered by holding the button.
It's probably repairable and remotes for just about any system are still quite available.
Heartland America, a catalog company, has offered a 'universal' garage door remote for some years; something that bothers the heck out of me.
on the back of your garage door opener there is a colored learn button--press and release-the learn indicator light will glow for a short time usually 30 seconds. within thirty seconds press and hold the buton on the hand held remote that you wish to operate your garage door. release the button when the motor unit lights blink. if you don;t have a light, two clicks will be heard. it has learned the code. procedure will be different for multi function control.

If you hold the button on the wall until the door goes all the way to the floor, will the door close?
