There is a manufacturing flaw with Sony cameras, whereby they damage the memory stick. I went on the Sony website and they clearly do not accept responsibility for the design flaw. They basically suggest replacing the memory stick, which doesn't help those who need to recover their photos. This link from the Sony website is to access a free program to rescue your memory stick. The site says that the program is for Sony memory sticks only and proper operation is not guaranteed for other memory devices (it doesn't say whether the program will further damage these sticks). If this doesn't work or you don't want to risk futher damaging a non-Sony stick your only recourse is to bring it to a professional in hopes they can recover the memory. Hope this helps.

rich > Yes
Kayla_ > Rich, let's format the Memory Stick in the Camera, that should resolve this issue.
rich > I have tried that, and I do not know if it tells me if it"s done or not...but I have did it about 5 times with the same results

Kayla_ > Rich, it's not recommended to format the Memory Stick in the Computer.

rich > So, how are you to transfer photos to your computer?
rich > Where can I get the supporting files, I have the disk..do I need to install some driver or something
rich > You must have 12 people on your screen....:)
Kayla_ > Rich, you can copy or cut the files from the DCIM folder to any preferred location of the COmputer to transfer the photos.

Think I had to buy another card anyway,
I went ahead and formatted on my computer every way FAT / FAT32 then I hit the RESTORE DEVICE DEFAULTS
or whatever it said while it was formatting, I guess (never) completing the FAT32 format.
GUESS WHAT! It worked!! at least for me, but if your gonna have to buy another card you might as well.......try :)

I just had this same problem and when I blew into the memory stick holder and blew onto the memory stick itself and reinserted it, it worked...must have had dust inside or something...although I'm not sure how as it was never opened!

Take the stick to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture kiosk. It can read most memory cards and you can print the pics or even make a cd from them.

Buy a new card for the rest of the vacation, the new Sony cards come with free recovery software that may help recover the images on the old card?

The problem is with the memory card. It probably just shorted internally and is no longer useful. The amount of memory is not the problem, as I used a 4GB card for a long time and my card finally went bad. You will just have to get another memory card and MAYBE find someone to be able to retrieve your data.
