Question about GE Advantium SCA1001SS Convection / Microwave Oven
The cavity lamp in my Advantium Mod: SCA1000HCC03 has just gone out after only four months of use. Is there any test to be done to assure it is only the lamp that's bad? Additionaly, has anyone a guide to replacing this lamp??? Thanks, JD
I have model SCA1001HSS02 and the cavity light burned out recently. Manual doesn't even mention a cavity light. Searched on GE website "Knowledge Database" and found nothing but recommending contacting GE service center for repair. Come on! It's a light bulb! Found this site and I was able to replace the bulb in 10 minutes without having to remove from the wall. Thanks justmeagain. Follow directions as justmeagain described. I'll give a little more detail on how to do it. 1) Remove front grill(two screws) that runs horizontally across top of unit. This grill is black and brushed nickel. 2) Once grill is removed, remove vertical, black plastic guard(two screws)that covers electronic componets. This cover has square holes and is located center right. 3) Once plastic cover is removed, remove sheet metal cover that is ~2" high and 4" long at the center. There are no fastners holding this in place. 4)Remove 1 sheet metal screw holding down larger horizontal sheet metal cover just to right of black plastic housing on left side. 5) You're now able to lift larger horizontal sheet metal to access light bulb holder. The bulb is located under a metal hood that is in the same general location as screw that was removed on left. Just squeeze metal hood and remove bulb holder. Pull out burnt out bulb. 6) Caution: Don't touch new bulb with bare fingers. Use paper towel or something to insert new bulb. 7) Reassemble and your done. Congrats, you just saved yourself $185.

Remove the vent grill AFTER unplugging the unit. There will be a metal cover in the middle of the micro behind the Vent grill. Under the metal cover you will find the light bulb on the left side under the plate with another metal clip with 2 white wires wrapped in a heat protected sheath. The light shield pops out by gently squeezing it and lifting up.

They are indeed the same bulb, a 10W halogen. Care must be taken not to touch the lamp, as the oils from the skin will shorten its life. In many recent models, the oven must be removed from the wall (a two-person job due to safety concerns) and the cover must be removed. The manufacturers consider this a "technician-only" type job to lessen their liability. You can find helpful exploded view diagrams of both ovens and order the bulbs here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383
