Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

Can't zoom I have really enjoyed my Canon PowerShort SD600, but for some reason, the zoom is no longer working. I don't know how I would fix this problem myself? I would like to avoid taking it in to a camera repair shop. PLEASE HELP!

The zoom ring/lever on my Canon SD600 no longer makes the lens zoom. First it was intermittent failure, but now it is complete. There was some mechanical limitation on ring movement when it was failing (6 hr ago). Now the ring movement is normal, but no zoom. All else works fine.

To my regret you can't repair it by yourself and it should be repaired in a professional lab. Following the repair cost you should decide, whether it worth it.

Canon HF100 zoom by itself, without touching the zoom button

you have to whack it on the bottom this will fix the problem (seriously!) bang it down on a hard surface (not too hard!!!) and then see if its fixed. do it a couple of times and it should work fine.

Sticky zoom button

I put some isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab and gently cleaned the area around the zoom button, and now it moves freely.

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

Digital camera lens makes noise when extruding

Manually rotating sensor rotor inside camera and cleaning gear fixed the Canon "lens error" for me.
I placed instructions with photo's here: http://www.avh.dds.nl/Fix-Canon-SD600-Lens-Error/

Canon SD600 lens jam

I followed the directions contained in http://www.avh.dds.nl/Fix-Canon-SD600-Lens-Error/ and by disassembling the camera and turning the rotor just a little bit (page 4 of the instructions), it freed up the lens and it is now working perfectly! The camera had been put down on the lens as the lens was retracting and I assume that jammed the retract mechanism. While the camera was open, I blew out whatever dust/dirt was there (didn't see much). The fix took me probably 20-30 minutes, and I am very pleased with myself!

Canon SD600 Lens error

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
