Needle hits the wheel under bobbin

My needle is hitting the wheel underneath the bobbin. It's as though the wheel is not turning in time with the needle lowering. Before I realized what was going on, I kept breaking needles..but now I have taken it apart and see that the needle hits the wheel instead of smoothing going into the holes in the wheel before coming back up to complete a stitch. Any advice here, before taking it to a shop?

Sounds like the toothed-belt (if there is one) jumped off timing. You can try realigning until the needle goes into the hole as the bobbin holder rotates in place. You can do this by manually slowly operating machine -- do not do with electric pedal.

SOURCE: Needle hits?

OK, this is a general timing procedure. Loosen the screws on the main shaft gear that goes to the hook drive gear and separate the gears. Next put the needle in the left position and bring the needle all the way down by turning the handwheel. As the needle comes up make the point of the hook enter the scarf of the needle (just above the needle eye)and hold it there while you put the gears back togeather and tighten the screws. This should put it close to being in time. To fine tune it you can loosen the needle bar screw (half way up the bar that holds the needle) and adjust theneedle so the hooks point is just above the needle eye. You may have to do this a few times in order to stop it from skipping stitches. Good luck. Rick

SOURCE: Needle hitting bobbin plate

Is the needle inserted correctly with the flat side at the rear and fully up into the holder ?

If yes, take off the needleplate, remove bobbin case and slowly rotate the handwheel towards you watching the relationship between needle, and the "hook" of the moving "race".

Set on wide zig zag........when the needle is fractionally past it's lowest point, and starting to rise, the hook should be level with the left side of the needle when on the right hand stitch of the zig...the eye of the needle will be below the hook, and ready for thread to be picked up for the stitch to form.

Any other result will mean your timing needs adjusting.

Hi, actually I can help with your problem but maybe you can help me with mine. A friend gave me the same model...without the instructions. Would you be willing to give me a pdf scan or photocopy of the manual, please? Let me know at [email protected]. Thanks!

SOURCE: singer 301A needle breaks

do you have a book, refer to threading. This machine threads differently than most, threads like a 221 featherweight. Needle goes in backwards, and threads backwards. in wrong and you can have problems, also threading can cause your problem if you have missed tension or a thread guide. great little machine

SOURCE: needle hits inside of bobbin case.

IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER MACHINE TO COMPARE YOU TAKE THE BOTTOM OFF SLIP THE BELT OFF AND THEN LINE UP THE MACHINE THATS OFF WITH THE GOOD ONE AND PUT THE BELT BACK ON. THIS WILL SET THE TIMING RIGHT..

Brother sewing machine When I lower the needle to pull up the bobbin thread it is hitting something underneath

Be sure to install a brand new needle. A bent needle could hit something it shouldn't. Check to make sure the bobbin & bobbin case are latched in place.

If it is still hitting, you should probably take it for service. Could be a machine timing issue.

Brother sewing machine I replaced the needle with a denim needle. When I try to lower the needle to pull up the bobbin thread, the needle is hitting something underneath.

Hm, have you tried installing a smaller needle to see if it will work? Also, check that the denim needle was installed facing the correct direction. Confirm the bobbin & bobbin case are installed correctly and latched in place.

If you can, open the cover to the bobbin area and while hand-rotating the wheel, watch how the needle is moving and see if you can tell what it is hitting. It could be that your machine is slightly out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

I just bought it and its sounds like metal getting hit by the needle, and the thread bunches up underneath fabric.

if it is brand new then have it fixed under warranty
if used then it appears that the needle/bobbin timing is out with the needle hitting the bobbin carrier ot the hook hitting the needle.
bunching up of thread under the material is a sign of upper tension to light
suggest that you have a service done to fix it.

I have an eXplore 220-240

Try to rotate the hand wheel towards yourself with the bobbin removed. If it still hits it is time to have it timed. Also, check carefully to make sure the hook (underneath bobbin) assembly is put together with the parts setting in their positions correctly and not cocked.

My Singer 6160's needle is hitting the bobbin plate.

first change the needle--flat side to the back of the machine, make sure the needle is inserted all the way up into the needle holder
make sure it's the correct needle for the machine
if the needle keeps hitting the bobbin plate then the machine may be out of time & would have to be take to a sewing machine shop for retiming.

My bernina (home art edition 160) needle just hits the case where the bobbin goes in, didn't know if anyone knows how to fix this?

if you've changed the needle & it still hits the bobbin case then it's a good chance the machine is out of time & needs to be repaired

My needle keeps breaking. So I unthreaded everything and cleaned the bobbin area. Per the manual i rethreaded everything but when i get to the part of turning the balance when toward me until the needle...

check to make sure the needle is inserted correctly--flat side to the back of the machine
that the needle is inserted all the way up in the needle shaft

check the needle clamp screw to make sure it's not loose

is the needle correct for the fabric that's being sewn

check to make sure the needle is not hitting the needle plate- if it's hitting the needle plate or the bobbin case then it's possible the machine is out of time & would have to be serviced because they have the proper tools to time it

I volunteer at a women's prison in their sewing class and we have model 385-16231301. The bobbin thread does not pick up. The bobin case seems to sit in their properly, but when I turn it manually...

check the needle to make sure that it's inserted correctly, the flat side of the needle goes to the back of the machine,, and make sure the needle goes all the way up into the needle cavity .

make sure the bobbin is correctly inserted

clean under the needle plate area & in bobbin area for loose threads or lint

if none of the above work & the needle is still hitting something then it 's a great possibility it's out of time & needs to be serviced, cause the needle should not be hitting anything when it goes down.

Top thread won't pick up the bobbin thread

re insert the needle, maybe you did not put the needle up as far as it is to go. Make sure the flat side of the needle is to the back of the machine. Without any thread in the machine hand turn the wheel and look to see if the hook of your bobbin would/could catch the thread (to see if timing is right)
then thread the machine and hand turn the wheel and see what it is doing.
Your timing might be off, but I do not think that is likely. Though it is possible that when the needle fell out, it hit something hard, broke, and pushed the machine out of timing. then you need to bring it in.
