If your dishwasher door won't lock, it could be a problem with the latch adjustment or the door seal. Some latches are designed to be adjustable, and yours may be set too tightly. Look at the owner's manual for specific instructions or follow these basic steps for adjusting the latch:

1. Spray WD-40 or other lubricant onto the latch.
2. Slowly open and close the door several times, noticing whether the door hits the strike plate (the metal plate on the top of the dishwasher frame). Use a hammer to lightly tap the strike plate to move it as needed.
3. If possible, adjust the depth of your latch by unscrewing the latch assembly using a screwdriver and reseating it. Work with the adjustment until it latches correctly.
Note: If your latch is permanently fixed, have a qualified professional address the problem.

The door seal-also called a gasket-can also cause problems if you have a brand new dishwasher or door seal. The good news is that the door seal will mold to the door's shape over the first week or so. Operating your dishwasher with the highest level of heat will help this process happen more quickly. Because the material is pliable, and because heat will soften it, it will seal to the door more securely after those first few loads.

On the flip side, an old door seal can also keep your door from closing correctly. Check the seal for signs of warping or damage. If the seal needs replacing, arrange for service, or consider doing it yourself. In most models, it's a relatively easy DIY project. See Dishwasher gasket replacement for step-by-step instructions.

For more troubleshooting steps, see Dishwasher door repair. I hope this helps!

SOURCE: My Jenn Air dishwasher door

Hello sharon. do not use it until this issue is resolved. the hinge may be loose or it may even be bent. get a flash light and check this out. the problem if it is a loose screw is that it may require a special screw driver to tighten the screws again. IF it is under warranty, call for a free repair. Otherwise check it out and see if you can find exactly what the cause is and determine if you have the right screw driver to correct it. Joe

Hi - The issue may lie with the door latch; a door switch is used to start and stop your dishwasher. It's a safety feature that won't allow water to flow with the door open. With a faulty door switch, there is a chance your dishwasher won't start at all. Dishwasher door switches are about an inch long. They are usually black but can be red. There are metal prongs on the body of the switch called terminals. Some door switches have two terminals and some have three. If your door switch is OK, check the timer assembly. This controls when and how long power is sent to other controls on your dishwasher. If these controls don't receive power, they won't work. The timer assembly contains a motor. Check this motor as well. It is often cheaper just to replace the timer motor rather than the complete assembly. My last suggestion is to check the cycle selector switches. These switches indicate cycles for washing, drying, and setting the temperature of the water. If one of your switches is the problem your dishwasher may not start. Dishwasher cycle selector switches tell the timer which cycle to run by opening and closing electrical circuits. Most selector switches are six to eight inches long. They are usually black and have terminals. By testing each one of these parts with an ohmmeter you should be able to determine why your dishwasher is not working. It is possible for other parts to fail but these are the most common parts to check. If any proves to be ineffective, I strongly suggest contacting a professional to move forward accurately.

Dishwasher door won't latch

it is very likely the dishwasher is not levelled correctly or the springs in the door are too tight. Refer installation manual to check dishwasher levlelling and door spring is adjusted correctly. Please provide dishwasher make and model if you do not have the installation manual.

Deactivate childlock on fully integrated neff dishwasher

If door won't close and you don't have a child-lock, just push the door closed a lot harder than you normally would - NEFF manual says to do that, and it worked for me! I think it just forces it to engage and 'releases' the catch, as after that it closed with just normal pressure applied.

My dishwasher won't start at all

There could a number of reasons why it won't start but start with the locking mechanism first. Make sure the locking mechanism is in the "Locked" position. It will be the lever at the top of the door. If that isn't the problem try describing everything you have tried and post your question again.

DISHWASHER was locked now unlocked but won't run. Goes to drain/Cancel when you push the Normal Cycles

Wondering how you unlocked the dishwasher. Normally you would have pressed Heat Dry for about 4 secs.

I don't this action would have caused the problem. For dishwasher to run you need the door lock switch to operate. If door is not closed it will go to Cancel.

Check item 12 in this diagram.
