Question about Harman Kardon HK 3480 Receiver

1 Answer

Amplifier/receiver switches off systematically after a few second of use

I have got a problem with my receiver Harman Kardon HK 3480 . When I switch on the receiver , it looks correct a few seconds ( blue light and display showing the radio frequency ) but a few seconds later , the word " protect " is displayed and the received is switched off . I can hear a "click" noise ( relay ? ) coming from the left rear side of the receiver .

Sounds like a bad output channel is causing it to go into protect mode. Time to see a repair tech.

Hi Garfield
Open it up and look for bulging capacitors, or take it into an audio technician. Nice unit and worth fixing. I did notice this comment on a review.

"Runs hot, keep in a ventilated area or get some fans".

I lost my remote to my harmon kardon DPR 1001 stereo is their an remote controle app i can download on my phone to controle stereo

No, phones don't have an infra-red transmitter. That would only work if the HK was connected to wifi and HK made an app and the internal circuity and logic to accept it.

Contact HK direct and buy a new remote.

Hello,

Are you sure that is the part number? The HK-3480 uses a KTC3114A and is quite easy to find. Q317 and Q318 in your receiver.

Make sure you see the numbers correctly.

Reciver goes into protect mode as soon as I turn it on.

Remove speaker wires and try again. If it still goes into protect mode, the problem is internal...shorted power transistors or some other fault. Check fuses also.

A power switch either works or does not work. It does not power on and then mysteriously power off like yours is doing.
You have some sort of power relay that is being powered off after a few seconds.

I would check out the power supply for your anomaly. And no, it is not a simple fix like you are capable of performing.

No speaker sound with hk 3480.

your fuses are blown by possible crossing speaker wire - and + together. I did this and kept turning it on but I ended up frying the unit. Check your wires and make sure that they are seperated properly. If problem continues then unscrew the shell and replace 1 or all 3 fuses (depending on what was blown) with GMA 8 amp fuses. good luck.
