I have had that same problem the reason why is because your person that put it in might not have put it in correctly

If you are playing different region dvds, they can be of different color formats also
(US = NTSC, Europe = PAL). If your television is not multi-format then non-compatible
DVDs will play black and white. The solution is to purchase a mutli-format TV (accepts

Are you trying to play a burn disc for the first time? Have you tried opening the disc tray and blow inside there a few times really hard or use a can of compressed air and blow in there? You can also try and remote the cover and cleaning the laser lens eye with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab.
