Magic Chef MCBR445S1 with a very hot compressor and no cooling inside the unit. Is it worth fixing?

It was plugged in, but not opened for awhile, think it may have froze up and burnt up compressor. When I found it, the compressor was very hot to the touch and the unit was not cooling. Plugged it back in a few days later, but no cooling and compressor still gets hot. Is it worth fixing?

You need to replace the Ptc unit attached to the compressor. Go to REPAIR CLINIC.COM and order the following part. 1206838 Ptc relay. They also will show you were it is located and how to replace it. Compressor tanks very rarely go bad. It is an $11.00 dollar part

If the compressor runs on 120 volts AC, (some are three phase DC, you can use a 3n1 hard start kit, they are very simple to use and cost around $20 dollars, you can purchase them at HVAC supply stores. If the compressor continues to short cycle after installing the hard start kit, then you need the compressor replaced and should check your warranty, this is often an expensive repair.

Hello,

Quite often when the door gets open for a extended period of time the vents in the ceiling of refrig.compantment where the cold air from the freezer enters the ref.section...by looking up in the rear of the ref.ceiling you should be able to see these vents and see if they are frozen..if they are frozen a hair blow dryer will thaw them

MAGIC CHEF MCBR 360S Mini Fridge and compressor is not working or cooling. No sound at all from unit. See more details below please. Thank you!

The compressor being hot means it is getting power to it. 2 possible problems. The compressor is locked up internally (too expensive) or the start relay or overload could be bad (approx cost for both parts about $45). You have to decide if you want to risk $50 and still find out you have a bad compressor. Most service techs have a direct test harness to hook up to compressors and make them run without the start relay and overload but not everyone knows how to do it properly.

I have a magic chef model #mcbr445s1. it was sitting in the basement for a while. when i went to plug it in, nothing happens. any suggestions as to what the problems is

Thermostat is off? Thermostat is defective or start relay is defective, make sure compressor is not getting hot when plugged into power source. If suspected compressor start relay we can jump the thermostat to eliminate that possibility. Let me know should you have questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

Unit stopped cooling. Measured circuit resistance L1 to L2, approx 10 ohms. Plugged unit in, heard a click in a few seconds. Unplugged and measured circuit resistance which indicated circuit open. ...

You'll need a 3-1 start kit. The clicking is those starting components. We shipped one out yesterday for 35.00 and that included overnight Sat. delivery the part alones was 20.00 with instructions. Very easy and the replacement kit is better than the original parts and available at most any appliance parts store. Good luck.

I bought a new magic chef refrigerrator model# MCBR445S. Settle down by following the manual. After few hours , can hear the motor is working, but inside is not cooling at all. And the motor is very hot,...

the step you were not aware of is that the unit needs something in the compartment so that the liquid gas can boil off and produce cold
normally a jug of water will do the trick
if the water doesn't feel cool/cold after 1 hour , call the technicians for a warranty check

MCBR445S1 hums very softly for a few seconds and then clicks off when plugged in. It does not get cold.

Check power output from the plug point for proper voltage. Please replace relay which is fixed with compressor terminal and check. If still humming, it's with compressor. You have to replace the compressor only.Thanks.

Wine fridge not cooling

It is normal for a compressor to be hot to the touch, but not super hot. clicking noise sounds like the relay located on the compressor terminals is bad. Hope this helps
