Question about KitchenAid Artisan Series Tilt-Head Stand Mixer
If you have also tightened up the screw that you can see from the front in the middle where the hinge pivots when head us up then that's where your problem is. That is the head height adjustment and is to set the flat paddle to just clear the bowl when the head is down.

I had the same issue. I just finished tearing mine apart only to find that the lock just wasn't engaging with a slot in the base of the mixer. Try lifting up the head of the mixer to expose the height adjust screw in the hinge between the base and the head. By tightening mine down a couple of turns, the lock can engage the slot again and the lock works. You may have to do a little tweaking to find the right balance between height adjustment and latch functionality, but at least you won't have to tear your mixer apart like I did!

It could be very easy. It maybe you have a the brush in the
wrong way round or they have simply run out. They are on the sides under the black plastic caps. Although they will fit in the hole any one of 4 ways
round, there is a key on one corner which means it will only go in one
direction. Use a torch to look into the hole before you put it back in.
They shoud look like this : brush

Remove the screw, item 22, to remove the trim band around the mixer. This will reveal 4 screws which hold the top cover on. Remove the screws and lift the top off. Find all the screws which hold the gearhead in place and tighten them all. If you want to make the fix a permanent one put some thread-loc compound on each screw and tighten it.

the solution to this is to tighten the screw visible through the base that intersects the pin. Turn the machine upside down and using a long flat screwdriver tighten the screw.
