In case you connect the System to a TV set using the Scart Connector, only the video signal is terminated, Audio is actually not wired inside the SB100 Scart connector.
Sound will only be amplified through the system itself (through the satelites and Sub) it can not be utilized as a stand-alone DVD player.
So after connecting your surround speakers the problem will be solved

TV audio output vastly different for satellite feed versus DVD feed. Why?

It is possible there are separate sound level functions for the DVD player, the tv and the satellite box, try the different remotes for each by unlocking the volume control on the satellite remote until you get them close or use the device specific remote volume controls. I would also try and use HDMI if available for the DVD instead of composite. If the volume controls are different it will show on the tv, might also go through all audio settings for each device. Some devices are pre-amped or send out strong sound signals while others are line level outputs designed to be amped by the output device, in this case your tv I believe. The HDMI vs stereo audio that goes with composite may be the cause or it could be in the settings of the device. Worst case is to remember to drop volume before you switch back so you don't ruin speakers.

DVD Player Only Produces Snow After Power Outage. Halp!

Sounds like your TV has lost the DVD channel. Turn off TV and make sure the DVD player is connected to TV and is playing a DVD. Now put you TV on and press the SOURCE or AV button on your TV remote until you can see the DVD channel. In older TVs you may need select channel and tune it manually using the TV setup.

My vizio flatscreen lcd has pic but will not play sound through the tv output, however it will pay sound when watching a dvd - just not when watching satellite

Use the cables connecting the DVD and connect the satelite.
If everything works OK, then check and replace the cables for the Satellite.
If the sound is still No Good, check the audio settings on the satellite
You may connect the DVD using the Satellite cables as a check as well

I have an old Zenith Digital Surround System the Receivver is a Model Z763B with a DVD Player/Recorder connected. When I play a DVD or VHS the sound can be heard through the TV and the Sound System,...

I have the same A/V receiver and in my setup there is an audio output (red and white able) coming from DVD player directly into Zenith Z763B. The video from DVD Player goes to TV input (yellow cable).
There might be alternatives to the setup mentioned above but I like to watch movie in a surround sound, rather than output from TV.

Connecting to a Satellite reciver

I solved the problem with my DVD recorder. I attached a cable from the loop out on the back of the FTA receiver to the RF in on the back of the recorder. All I was missing was the signal from the satellite. Everything is working fine now.

Thanks

No Sound when I play DVD's

The optical connection on the TV is most likely an input, not an output. You need to connect the Xbox to the receiver, then the TV. If the receiver does not have a HDMI input, use another audio or digital out from the Xbox to the receiver.
