Sounds like you have a bad starter solenoid or a bad wire try and jump start it direct to the starter and bypass the cables

SOURCE: transmission oil ? for cub cadet tractor

Hi, Cissy, Every Cub Cadet is different, and they keep their manuals to themselves. With your exact model and serial number, you can go to their website and view the manual for your model which should have the type of oil you need. Their website is www.cubcadet.com and go to service. If you have trouble, let me know, but I will need the model and serial. Good Luck, this should Fixya!

SOURCE: My cub cadet src 621 has been difficult to start

If its ripping you arm off the timing is off. Check the flywheel key it is more than likely sheared off. Pull the cover and look down on the flywheel and you should see this.Your unit is not clear to me so whatever unit you have check the timing and when its right it will not pull your arm off.Good luck.

SOURCE: Cub cadet Z Force 48 inch zero turn blades won't engage

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.

I have 1999 cub cadet Z-54 with a kawasaki fd590 water cooled.I have to tap on the starter to get to turn over. the starter and solinoid are new. the old one did the same thing.

It probably needing an additional relay added to the starter circuit. I know some JDs using Kawasaki engines needed this as there was too voltage drop between the ignition switch and the starter relay for the starter to function properly.

Some of those cadets (like those with the Command 20) have a compression release mechanism on the cam which is intended to make that engine crank easier but disengages once the engine fires up. It's a plastic part and is prone to break, resulting in a lot of strain on the starter motor. Interesting design, bad materials. Sometimes the engine will start anyway but this is not a good idea to operate this way. Pull the valve cover. Look at the motion of the exhaust valve when you turn the engine by hand. It will look similar to the motion of the intake valve if this part is broken. If it's working correctly, you should see the exhaust valve open slightly just after the intake valve closes. I'll attach a video to show what it looks like. Replacing the bad cam is a bit of work but not terrible.

I have a z force s cub cadet. The battery is good. Tested and passed. the engine/started must work hard to turn over, but still won't catch. I will jump the tractor and it will start and run.

You may want to try to find a battery with a stronger amperage rating. Even if the battery passes if it is borderline for starting it new it may not be strong enough even if it's still okay for it's battery type.

Other causes:
A worn starter can cause this issue. If a few of the coils shorted the starter will work but require much more current to do the job

A bad relay/solenoid to the starter that doesn't allow enough current to go through can cause this.

Valves out of adjustment... especially on some Briggs and Stratton engines, it's a known issue that if the valves need adjustment the motor can require a lot of energy to turn over and can cause constant hard starts.

Cub cadet lt1040. won't start. new battery. making a cliking sound when you try to start it.

I had the same problem the starter was the problem, found the stater will engage by itself not sure why but think it could be the wireing, or a swich. also check the solenoide it could be bad if the starter is bad.
