My zoom lenses appears to be stuck in the out position. I thought maybe it needed a charge and I did that and the camera will not turn on nor will the zoom go in or out automatically like it did. It looks to me like it is jammed so it clicks when you attempt to turn it on. I also tried removing the battery and installing it and that didn't do anything either.
I'm afraid to take the camera apart so I haven't done anything else to it. Do you have any suggestions or can you recommend an authorized dealer that I can bring it to in order to be fixed?
Thank you in advance for any help, Julianne

hi, Zoom Error occurs when there the lenses are not able to move and something is obstructing the movement like some dust or sand grains etc., to dislodge the obstructing particles try tapping the lense side corner of the camera on a table top lightly (not too hard please, as the lense and autofocus combination is quite fragile) a couple of times in switch off mode and trying to power on after every 2-3 taps.
or you might send it out to a service centre, the charges are generally just the serviceing charges as no new parts needed.
If you are unable to maximize the zoom capabalities of your lens, the mechanical gears might have been jammed and or broken. Do not push it if it won't let you as you might break the lense. What you can do is to bring it to your local camera shop or service center to have it fixed.
I bought a flex cable from ebay for my efs 17-85mm lens. Maybe you can try ebay and search for flex cable efs 17-85mm (to find similar suppliers) or search for the efs 17-85mm zoom contacts. The part that is broken sends the actual zoom position of the lens to the camera so that a Canon external electronic flash can correctly set its flash zoom position and the exif data is correct.
MY CAMERA IS HAVING TROUBLE TURNING ON. THE OTHER DAY I TOOK A PICTURE AND IT SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF IT WITH THE ZOOM LENS OUT. NOW WHEN I PRESS POWER IT SAYS RETRY POWER ON OR IT WONT DO ANYTHING AT ALL. THE BATTERY IS CHARGED ALSO BUT NOW I CANT USE IT AT ALL
I believe the FZ7 determines that the lense cap is still on when it can't extend the zoom lense because the lense cap is in the way. I would check to see if your zoom lense housing is somehow stuck (could be sand or dirt in it) which is creating enough resistance to make the camera think the lense cap is impeding the zoom lense from extending.
Has it had a bump lately?
Most times this is caused by the camera being kept in the glovebox or similar.
The drive gears for the lens are very fine and delicate.
They are not easy to pull apart either.
