Upgrade the bios from windows 7

How do I upgrade the bios for dv6433cl from within Win7 to access 4 gig memory addresses. ~without~ bricking the machine or having to do a complete re-install & update after the flash? I've read that if you have win7 and try too update from F2E it bricks the bios.

You never flash a BIOS within Windows. That's like running across a busy freeway. There is a chance you might not make it. And, you only flash the BIOS if you truly have a severe problem. You don't.

4GB is unobtainable within a 32bit system. The most Windows will end up utilizing is in the low 3GB's. This has been around for ages, and someone should have fixed it by now.

Ending up with a dead CMOS chip is as bad as it gets. In the end it is up to you whether to flash or not. All I could do was give you some advice.

Thank you for thr advice, I didn't mention I am running 64 bit ultimate, The phoenix bios is what is preventing the 4th gig of memory from being accesible. I'll have too see if I can make a boot cd & run the flash from it. My only concern would be that I have to reinstall the os & driver updates if that is the case.

If it's Windows 7 32bit it has limits on the amount of ram it can use.
Google it and see.

Jetway motherboard 939 GT4-SLI-G will only accept 3.5 gig RAM and not 4 gig RAM as per specifications. It does not run on gaming applications when 4 gig inserted (4 x 1 gig). Any solution?

If you are running a 32 bit version of windows it will only see up to 3.5gig of ram in your system no matter how much ram you put in there.
This is down to 32 bit windows only being able to address a maximum of 3.5 gig of ram.
Windows 64bit can address a far larger amount of ram and is why you will see all windows computers running 4gig or more of ram having Windows 64bit installed.
As you have said your computer is running Windows 7 32bit the only way you will get your computer to see the whole 4gig of ram you have installed is to upgrade to Windows 7 64bit.
Hope this answers your question and helps you out.

Hi. I wonder if there are any upgrades at all for my e machines m2352. Especially looking at mobo upgrades for more ram so I can run win 7 with it.

Between that processor and the maximum RAM that laptop will take I'm not sure Windows 7 is a really good idea. The consensus seems to be 2 gigs of memory for Windows 7, this will go to 1.2 gigs at max (according to this page).

You could try Windows 7 "starter edition" if you really wanted 7 or there's always that up-and-comer OS Ubuntu, which has a "netbook edition"
(wikipedia has more information if you're interested).

Having said that if you can try it without spending several hundred dollars to see what the performance is like I would say upgrade the memory and try it out to see if the performance is something you can live with. It takes DDR PC2700 SO-DIMM type memory (specs page).

I am using toshiba l310 laptop with windows xp installed onit.NOW I WANT TO CHANGE MY OPERATING SYSTEM FROM XP TO WINDOWS 7,MY QUESTION IS THAT CAN I USE SAME DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS 7 WHICH I USE ON XP ...

You will need new drivers for Win 7. Before attempting to go to Win 7, run the Microsoft Upgrade Advisor and see what issues it lists: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=161223 (since laptops have on-board video that may be an issue). You will be doing a custom install from XP and have to reinstall all of your programs and drivers - many will be available. Several XP programs will not install in Win7 without some work (compatability mode or the XP mode virtual machine (in Pro or Ultimate). Upgrading your software may be needed unless you have the latest version that supports XP through Win7 or want to do the work-arounds.

In addition you would be wise to check for any BIOS updates for your specific machine and apply those. Windows 7 is a good OS if you have 2 GB or more of memory. It can run with less but it isn't better than XP in that case. The biggest difference is that Win7 will be supported by Microsoft for updates for a longer period (patches); XP will lose that support in the next few years.

I hope this helps.

No you don't have to install a 64 bit OS. Only if you install over 3 gigs you MUST install a 64 bit operating system. 800MHZ is fine it will just back down to 667MHZ. your 32bit windows OS will see up to 3 gigs (minus graphics card memory). SO 2 gigs will work fine. Install one stick at a time and check in the OS and bios to make sure each stick works. I would say you possibly have a dead ram stick.

Incorrect RAM reported on BIOS

4GB RAM requires a 64 bit compatible processor AND Operating System to be able to access
addresses in memory that exceed the 32 bit assress space.

I'm not familiar with the motherboard that you are using but simply expanding RAM isn't enough if your
system isn't 64 bit compliant. Assuming it is, then ensure that you are using a 64 bit version of Windows 7 opposed to a 32 bit release candidate.

Upgraded Dell Dimension 3100 memory to 2 Gigs - Windows XP fails

Did you add the two sticks with the 512 or remove the 512 and add the two 1gb sticks? Try booting the machine with ONLY the 1gb sticks in.

Your machine supports 1gb modules but they can't be higher than 533MHz. Check that the memory you purchased was either PC3200 (400MHz) or PC4200 (533MHz) and is 1.8v. If you post the part number off of one of the modules I can look it up for you.
