Question about Canon FaxPhone L75 Plain Paper Laser

Sending and receiving problems

My machine dials the receiving number, scans the document, attempts to connect with the receiver, goes to redial, then prints an error message, to wit : #18 Busy /no signal. When I pick up the receiver there is a dial tone, the copier works, but the message doesn't transmit. I'm not sure, but I think that we are not receiving faxes either.

I followed the recommended steps and changed the to the "Line" plug instead of the alternate. The problem persists. I'm open to other input.

Advice was good, just didn't solve the problem.

I plugged a phone into the fax phone jack. When I called the number, I got a busy signal???

Does that mean I have a problem with the phone company, or something else?

Where the telephone line comes in from the wall, make sure that it is plugged in the "line" or "wall" port. There is probably another port call "tel" or "acc". If the line is plugged into that port you will still get a dial tone but you are not connected to the fax's modem. You hope that's it. Ed

Can you receive a fax? Try sending a fax to your cell phone (or another line that you can answer). When you answer the phone, you should hear a beep every 2.5 - 3 seconds.

    CAN YOU RECEIVE A FAX?

Also: put a document into the feeder like you were going to send a fax
Dial your CELL PHONE NUMBER and press the START button.
When your CELL PHONE rings - answer it. You should hear a beep ever 2 or 3 seconds.
If you do not get the beep - recheck to make sure the tel cord is plugged into the LINE port.

How do you send a Fax?

1 Load the document face up into the Document Tray.
2 Dial the receiving party's fax number.
3 Press [Start/Copy].
The fax begins sending.
Note
If an error occurs during sending, the fax beeps intermittently for a few seconds and an error
message appears on the LCD. If this happens, correct the problem and then press [Stop], then
try sending the document again.
The fax automatically redials if the receiving party does not answer or if the line is busy.

Fax is always busy when sending, have the line into the phone line port and into the telephone jack, fax scans and dials and even redials but it never go through, prints out receipt that says busy/no...

Has it always done this, or did Fax once work? Sadly, Windows XP Fax has many shortcomings, not the least of which is that it won't work with many modems still in common use. Modem incompatibility is not apparent during installation or the initial setup. It only becomes apparent when you try to send or receive a fax. The Fax Service will dial or will answer an incoming fax but then fail with any of a number of unhelpful error messages such as "Line is busy," "There is no answer," or "Reception error." There will be nothing in Event Viewer to give a clue as to where the problem might lie.

These errors have been nearly impossible to track down. To do so requires enabling both PSS and debug logging of fax transmissions, both of which require fairly extensive registry changes. For the time being, the best advice is to attempt to use XP Fax only if you have a modem that is listed on the Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List and using the latest drivers.

Hope helps.

I CAN`T SEND A FAX

Fax machines are sorta like printers, sorta like scanners, and sorta like dial up modems all wrapped into one expensive box.
1. First thing to make sure of is that you are hooked to a phone line. most fax machines have a phone handset that you can make calls from. Call someone and make sure that works. If So, you are able to connect to phone networks, and should have no trouble sending or receiving data. If you have a dead line or no sound, check the line and check the power. (its always the easy stuff that is overlooked, just check it and make sure).
2. If this fax machine has computer interface, (usb port or parallel cable port), see if you can scan with it. Drop a document into the scan area and see if the computer can scan an image from the scanner. If the scanner works, you can scan images into the fax machine to be sent to the fax number. (If your fax machine does not have a scan to computer feature, skip this.)
3. if your fax machine has a print from pc feature, try to print a document to it from your computer. If you can print, then the printer works, and you can receive faxes. (if your fax machine does not have a pc printing feature, skip this)
4. Here is how a typical fax machine works. You place the document or image into the scanner feed area. You press a big button that usually says "fax" and then, a screen pops up saying to dial the number. You dial the number and press SEND. once you press Send, the machine will scan the document, dial the number and sing a little dial up modem song awaiting a response from the receiving machine. the receiving machine acknowledges the fax, and the singing is no longer audible (but it continues because the modem song is actually data transmission/reception). after about 20-60 seconds, the fax completes and the call ends. As for the particular model you have, the functions should be about the same, though the buttons and arrangements may be different. FYI, you can send a fax straight from the PC too, if you have a dial-up fax/modem card.

Hi zoaj,

More then likely you have the fax set up to USE A DIALING PREFIX.

Therefore it is automatically doing this, regardless of what you input.

Follow the proceedure below ( which comes directly from the users manual for your printer type ) to change this. Delete the " USE A DIALING PREFIX " information.

once that is done, it will no longer automatically add the prefix for you. :)

I have BOLDED the relevant information below that pertains to this.

Please take a moment to evaluate my solution. Your appropriate rating of my solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sending fax error message "low memory"

Try reading these:

General fax problems
Issue Cause Solution The document stops feeding in the middle of faxing. The maximum length of a page that can be loaded is 381 mm (15 inches). Faxing of a longer page stops at 381 mm (15 inches). If no jam exists and less than one minute has elapsed, wait a moment before press Cancel . If a jam exists, remove the media. If the item is too small, it can jam inside the automatic document feeder (ADF).

(HP LaserJet 3015 all-in-one) The minimum paper size for the ADF is 74 x 105 mm (2.9 x 4 inches).

(HP LaserJet 3030 all-in-one and HP LaserJet 3380 all-in-one) The minimum page size for the ADF is 127 x 127 mm (5 x 5 inches). If a jam exists, remove the media. The fax activity logs or fax call reports are printing at inappropriate times. The fax activity log or fax call reports settings are not correct. Print a configuration report and check when the reports print. Set the appropriate log or report printing times through the control panel or the HP Toolbox. The volume for sounds that the device emits is too loud or too soft. The volume setting needs to be adjusted. Set the appropriate sound volume settings through the control panel. Fax send troubleshooting Use the information in the following table to solve problems that might occur when sending faxes: Issue Cause Solution Faxes stop during sending. The fax machine to which the fax is being sent might be malfunctioning. Try sending to another fax machine. The telephone might not be working. Do one of the following:
  • Turn up the volume on the device, and then press Fax/Send on the control panel. If a dial tone is heard, the telephone line is working.
  • Disconnect the device from the jack in the wall, and then connect a telephone to the jack. Try to make a telephone call to make sure that the telephone line is working.
A communication error might be interrupting the fax job. Change the redial-on-communication-error setting to On.

See the electronic User Guide on the CD-ROM that shipped with the product. The device is receiving faxes but is not sending them. If the device is on a PBX system, the PBX system might be generating a dial tone that the device cannot detect. Disable the detect-dial-tone setting.

See the electronic User Guide on the CD-ROM that shipped with the product. A poor telephone connection might exist. Try again later. The fax machine to which the unit is sending to might be malfunctioning. Try sending to another fax machine. The telephone line might not be working. Do one of the following:

  • Disconnect the device from the jack in the wall, and then connect a telephone to the jack. Try to make a telephone call to make sure that the telephone line is working.
Outgoing fax calls continue to be dialed. The device automatically redials a fax number if the redial options are set to On. Press Cancel to stop the redials while the device is dialing.

To cancel a pending fax job, see "Canceling a fax job" in the electronic Users' Guide on the product CD-ROM.

See "Changing the redial settings" in the electronic Users' Guide on the product CD-ROM. Faxes that are sent are not arriving at the receiving fax machine. The receiving fax machine might be off or might have an error condition, such as being out of paper. Call the recipient to make sure that the fax machine is on and ready to receive faxes. The originals might be incorrectly loaded. Make sure that the original documents are correctly loaded into the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray or flatbed scanner (not available with the HP LaserJet 3015 all-in-one). A fax might be in memory because it is waiting to redial a busy number, other jobs that are ahead of it are waiting to be sent, or the fax is set up for a delayed send. If a fax job is in memory for any of these reasons, an entry for the job appears in the fax log. Print a fax activity log and check the Status column for jobs that show a Pending designation.
