Hi there.
Sorry there are no Vista drivers for that laptop, your friend may be able to install XP drivers for sound and video but i doubt Vista will except them, he can try for nothing though.

If you try to install from cd/dvd drive, your optical drive lens can't read data well and resulting to delay transfer of data or error installation.Try cleaning the lens with cotton or lens cleaner and try again. Or maybe you have bad installer.

When I turn the laptop on it powers up but there is a black screen. It's a compaq nx9110

Shut it down. Take the battery out. Unplug it. Leave the battery out then turn the computer back on. If you still have a black screen there is a hardware problem. If you have an external monitor connect it to the laptop and switch to show on external monitor. If you can see externaly then problem is cable or screen problem. If you can't see external picture then problem is most likely a chip on the motherboard. Video chip problem common on hp and compaq laptops.

go to compaq website,download vista drivers.if there isnt any try driver guide.or driver detective.
driver detective isnt free but it will update every driver you have.

Hi there , sound like it is a software problem , if you can only read it on that compaq , it may be the permision setting in the writing software , if you cannot change these setting you could try installing a different writing programme .
