Question about Western Digital (WDXU1200BBRNN) 120 GB Hard Drive
Can someone please help me? My western digital 120 external hard drive seems to be no longer reconisable to my pc. When turned on the power light comes on the drive starts up the red hd lights but stops at that point, and does not carry on in order to be identified by the pc. If I disconnect the main usb cable the red HD light comes on briefly indicating some kind of communication between the drive and pc. any Ideas? please help
Well usually external hard drives are just a regular hard drive in an encolsure! You can try to mount the hard drive to a regular pc using the ide/sata connector(Im not real sure which interface your drive will use). From there you can tell wether its the actual drive that is giving trouble or just the USB enclosure! Most of the times with those name brand external drives its a lil complicated to figure out how to take it apart to take out the hard drive. What you can also do is try(if you get it open) to see if you can unplug the hard drive from the enclosure then power on the enclosure and see if the lights come up green(or whatever color it uses to indicate ready)! if it does then power off the enclosure then re-connect the drive to the enclosure and power on again! Maybe that works! Removing the drive might void your warranty, proceed at your own risk! Good Luck regards, babb
