I put a disc into my pet710 and it starts to spin, and then in makes this scratchy sound, but it keeps spinning. I know that when it makes that sound the spinning of the disc slows down, then it speeds back up. The screen just reads "loading". After the disc has been in the player for a little while the screen reads "no disc" and this is all it will do. Does anyone know what this problem could be, and maybe how to fix it? I appreciate any help. Thanks:)
I am unsure if it was dropped. It belongs to our daughter, so there is a good possibility that someone might have dropped it.I am unsure if it was dropped. It belongs to our daughter, so there is a good possibility that someone might have dropped it.
My problem with the Philips PET706 is the same - put the disc in, it says 'loading' three scratchy noises and it says no disc.
I tried moving the slide fully in and out by hand (over-riding the worm drive)as one reply said, but it made no difference.
Have managed to open the lid but still get it to operate start up by placing a probe in the contact hole, so I can see what is happening.
It spins, says 'loading' the slide moves into the centre and retreats, making the scratchy noise, it does this three times then says 'no disc'
At no time is there a light in the laser; should there be at this stage ?My problem with the Philips PET706 is the same - put the disc in, it says 'loading' three scratchy noises and it says no disc.

I had this problem (my child dropped the unit)
so ilifted the lid and just gently moved the little thing that moves the lens back and forth (don't touch the lens) first out and then back to the centre. This must have realigned it on the track after being moved after a small drop. Seemed to work fine after this. These units should be better made to survive a short drop - after all they are portable and this would imply moving them regularily so the chance of falling is very high.

The only solution is buy a DVD disc cleaning kit and follow the instructions, this will clean the plastic lens and maybe get it back in working order. Second option is to buy a cheap DVD player in hopes the back of the set has the proper audio and video input jacks.
I would have it sent to Panasonic to repair it, it seems the laser assembly might be out of it's original place because of the shock it received upon impact. I also suggest you don't try putting any more disks in there, the scratching noise could be the laser rubbing against the bottom of the disk.
I have the same problem with my portable dvd player and found that cleaning the lens of the player using a non-alcolhol wet nap for cleaning eye glasses worked well. I also found the rail that the optics runs along while playing needed a very small amount of silicone greese applied using a Q-tip. You may find that the optic unit may be "stuck" somewhat but can be resolved by gently moving the optic along its guide using a finger.
This changed my unit from not working at all, to working intermittantly sometimes having to vary the player on and off to recongnise the disc. Hope this works
I have the same problem. when i put in a disc while holding down the little button that makes it think it's closed, it starts to spin and if i keep on spinning it it will say loading until i stop spinning it, then it just says no disc.
you allneed to make sure the disc is spinning in the player you should hear it whirr as ut builds speed listen closely to it and keep a hand on it to feel when the disk quits if it starts. its supposed to spin v ery fast do you think you could tell by the sound of it if its spinning fast. some times they make a clicking noise because the drive mounts have slid down in the case and allows the disk to rub or tap the case. please let me know what you find out. this is for all three problems. let me know the results so i can further advise you.
the reason it makes the "grinding" noise is because the motor that moves the lens to read the disk is dieing, this generally happens when you have played your ps2 for a long time, this only happens to older consoles.
Sounds like a common problem with this trutech brand. There are some possibilities. 1. Laser could be worn out, 2 it could be a bad cable coming from the laser. 3 The home switch for the laser to come all the way back to its "HOME" position could be bad. But usually if this is the case, the disc won't spin at all. And 4th, the spindle motor that spins the disc could be worn out. Causing the disc not to spin fast enough and thus causing an error. Let me know if you want to send me one of these anyone so as i can trouble shoot the problem further. Keep me posted and i hope this helps you out some. Thank you Jay
