the cable splits in two, one going to the carburetor other going to the engine side, so either the splitting point has come unhooked, or cable is broken by the throttle point, or cable unhooked at engine mounting point as it`s attached to a pulley wheel. My bet is on the cable splitting pont, buy a decent cable.
In a 2006 car the throttle doesn't need to be pressed when starting as it will have an auto choke as such.
This is engaged automatically on cold start even if your throttle cable has snapped it will still start and if the cables snapped the throttle peddle will be on the floor or will feel different.

To replace the throttle cable, first loosen the adjustment on both cables getting as much slack as possible in both cables. Then remove the two screws that hold the right switch housing together. Carefully seperate the two halves of the switch housing. Work the cable out of their slots in the throttle sleeve. Do not lose the ferrels on the ends of the cables but do take them off. Work the broken cable out of the lower switch half.
To get the cable loose from the carburetor, you'll probably have to remove the fuel tank. With the fuel tank off, you can work the cable out of the cable stop and then out of the throttle plate linkage on the carburetor.
To install the new cable, first slide the new cable up through the hole in the lower switch housing. Then put the ferrels on the ends of both cables and work them back into their slots in the throttle sleeve. Carefully reassemble the switch housing halves back together being careful not to pinch any wires.
Then reconnect the cable at the carburetor throttle plate linkage and insert the new cable in the cable stop. Adjust the cable so that you have just a bit of freeplay in them and check to see if the throttle will snap closed on it's own when cranked to wide open throttle position and release. Make certain that the throttle works correctly. Put the fuel tank back on.
You need to take the entire throttle control assembly off the handlebars and disconnect the cables from the carburetor. Check each cable for free movement. If you have a frayed cable, you will never get it to work correctly so check the cables. Now when you go to put the assembly back together make sure you put some thin grease on the handlebar and inside the throttle sleeve before you slide it up on the handlebar. Put white lithium grease in the area where the cables connect to the throttle sleeve the bolt the two halves of the switch housing together. Slide the switch and throttle assembly all the way up on the handlebars and then back it off about an 1/8" or so. This insures that the handlebar is not rubbing on the inside of the end of the throttle grip.
Each cable has an adjuster near the throttle grip. They may be covered by a rubber boot. Slide the boot up so you have access to the adjusters. Loosen the lock nut on each cable. Now, adjust the throttle cable first. You want a little freeplay in the throttle grip when you start to turn it. Once you get it adjusted to that point, lock the lock nut. Then adjust the idle cable until it stops and back off just a bit. Lock the lock nut.
Now, with the engine OFF, twist the throttle to the wide open position and let go of it. It should 'snap" back to the closed position. If not, you may have the throttle cables adjusted too tightly. Back both of them off just a bit and retry. You want the throttle to "snap" shut on your bike. If not, it could cause you serious injury or death. If you're not certain of what you're doing, find someone that is experienced at doing this. You don't want your throttle sticking on your bike. This could be dangerous.
If you're talking about the small snap ring on the metal part of the cable housing, it does snap into the housing. This is what holds the cable housing into the throttle housing and keeps it from flopping in the wind.
Remove the seat, tank, and airbox. Follow throttle cable from the grip to the carbs seeing which way it is routed. Unscrew throttle housing and note which way the cable goes. Make sure when you replace the cable there is free play in the cable. Do not make the cable tight. Give slack in the throttle. Tighten. Twist throttle 10 times to make sure that there is no binding and a good snap! Chaz Moto DC
adjust the cables to were they are as loose as possible. one cable should be for snap back and the other for the actual throttle. you will have to put the housing on the bars and the throttle sleeve on the bars, then install the cables in the throttle sleeve.
