Spin cycle does complete job of removing all water. realized machine was unlevel. leveled it, but did not fix problem. i'm sure it was unlevel for quite a few years. could it be the belt has stretched out and just needs to be replaced.
Vzone, you don't have a belt on this model. After the agitation, the washer should go into a nuetral drain for about 90 seconds getting rid of most of the water before spinning. See if yours is doing this. If it doesn't, the gearcase lost it's nuetral drain. The gearcase has a five year warranty on it, part only. If it's ok, the next thing I would do is check the drain pump itself, see if it has a bunch of junk wrapped up in the impeller restricting the flow. The pump comes off easy. Two clips and two clamps. Check the photo, Catriver..post back.
OK, now it sounds more like the timer. The fact that you have to lift the lid to go into spin tells me that trans is not coming out of the nuetral drain. The trans will not come out of the nuetral drain unless the power is interupted. If the timer is not doing it, by you lifting the lid is doing it. Without being there and by your second post, I would be leaning more toward the timer. Catriver..post back.
You have to take the gear case out and put it on a bench that has a vise. remove the case bolts, dump the oiil
dump the oil...replace the nuetral drain kit, and the cam assy. only way to fix it...

a misdiagnose. turns out, during the spin cycle, the motor runs but the tub does not spin. if you open and close the lid or start a new spin over, then it will spin. any ideas on what might be going on.
