The pictures are almost white because it's too blurry, the video works fine

am getting experience the same problem - horizontal white lines on blurry still pictures - after 2 years. But the video is working properly.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Hi! It looks pretty much that the camera reached it's break point. It will cost you atleast $190 for the repair and will only cost you $300 or less for a latest model of camera nowadays. I strongly suggest that you get a new one to replace this camera. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

I had also the same problem with my Canon A430. Mainly this problem is due to stuck of the camera shutter, always in open mode, images are overexposed due to this.
I had the problem with lens flex cable, which was partially damaged due to movement of lens and one coil was not working, due to this one shutter was not working and remains always in open mode. There are two coils, which operates the 2 shutters. I purchased the lens flex cable from ebay and replaced it, now it is working fine. Your problem may be the same.
