Can't read blank DVD for recording / can't transfer film from HD to dvd

Hi. this is my first time to post on this site! I've just bought my Lite on Dvd recorder 2 months ago ( online) ... and now I have a big problem...everytime I place a blank DVd for recording, my unit takes a long time to "detect " the disc and at the end , it remains unread ( expelled out!) so it is IMPOSSIBLE to go on recording........... I can use it for viewing films but NO RECORDING IS POSSIBLE....my hard disk is full of interesting films but am afraid of loosing all of them. Tried to clean the lens many times with a dvd disc cleaner ( with brush on it) but no good result....tried too with a sterile cotton bud ( several times)..but still negative result... I NEED HELP. thanks......

Thanks for the help. I am not an expert but I am just confused because I have no problem with viewing any film, either original or copied films ( dvd-R ) ...does it make sense of a possible problem with the laser (lens)....RECORDING is the big trouble. Are there some updates to download ? ( SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH!)

I have exactly the same problem. Does everything except it won't burn to blank disks (any kind). It says function not supported due to a disk format mismatch.

A techo has suggested to me that it would a digital board that speaks from the HDD to the DVD drive and to replace it would be expensive relative to the cost of the unit. His comment was that you only get what you pay for. Might be cheap but if it doesn't work?

Liteon clearly not interested in customer service as I have written twice and no reply.

I presume at this stage you have tried a different type of dvd disc and not just the one type and you are using the correct format dvdr for your machine. If you have tried all this it could be the laser, but make sure you try everthing else before replacing optic assy.

How can I transfer recordings to a hard drive?

Any external USB hard drive that uses a 3.5" hard drive (the larger drives they use in desktops) will work. These all come with an external power adapter you must plug into the wall.

The external hard drive units that use the smaller 2.5" hard drives are the ones they use in laptops. These require much less power, and can be powered by the PC's USB port although some do come with an optional power adapter. However the Dish receiver does not send enough power to its USB port to power the hard drive, which is why the tech told you to get one that has an external power supply.

Even then the DVR uses a drive format that your computer may not recognize. I don't know if there are tools out there that will let you connect a hard drive from a DVR, read and convert the TV shows stored there.

Another option is to buy a DVD recorder. This is like a VCR, only it uses a DVD disc and not a video tape. Connect the DVD recorder to the outputs on the DVR, and then set the DVD recorder so it will record from its input. (on my DVD recorder this is "IN2")

Put a blank DVD into the DVD recorder, start playing a show on the DVR, and hit record on the DVD recorder. When the show is finished, hit stop on the DVD recorder to stop recording. The advantage here is you can then play this DVD on any DVD drive. The disadvantage is DVD recorders only record in non-HD. You can still play a show in HD, but the recording you get won't be in HD. Also, the show has to record in real time. So if it's a 60 minute episode, it will take 60 minutes to record.

Backup hdd to external hd

DVD recorders are usually not the first selection for backup of data files. you may be better off with a 1 Tbyte external drive, which is suited for that purpose. Even though the DVD drive has the capacity, there are usually formatting issues with data files being burned to a DVD recorder.

Since it went into "disk recovery mode" it now will not play dvds

Got the same problem. Happened 2 months after guarantee expired. **** machine. The only good thing is the harddrive and that is made by HITACHI not Panasonic! I go Sony next time. Panasonic quoted £200 plus to fix the problem. I only paid £220 when I bought it new.

I recently bought a Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-EZ27. And it does not read blank DVD's. I've tried different brands of DVD-R's, DVD R's, and DVD-RW's. However it will play and recognize pre-recorded DVD's....

The problem still is;nt fixed. I bought the dvd recorder from a person that buys customer returns at an auction. I contacted him and he offered to give me a full refund or another recorder. He thought it might be a software problem. Thanks for getting back to us on this problem.
