Kenwoods are notorious for this, pull your deck out. i 80% promise that all of you have a ground or a blown speaker,
you need to take the deck out and unplug the harness,
with a test light NOTE!! ALWAYS USE A COMPUTER SAFE TEST LIGHT, YOU DONT WANT TO BLOW YOUR COMPUTER!! hook up the red side to the an exposed part of the yellow wire on your sterio wire harness, it has to be connected to the actuall wire inside for it to work if you have to strip a peice of this off do so but tape it back up when your done. probe the white, grey, green, and purple wires with the tip of the test light, and i almost guarentee you will find a wire that lights up your light, the color of wire indicates which speaker you blew.
white-left front speaker
grey-right front speaker
green-left rear speaker
purple-right rear speaker,
do both of the same color wire,

Protect is a mode where there is no output whatsoever to save from frying. Something is shorting - end of story. If not in your wireing then internally. The fact that you did reset and it did it again only proves it. Sorry, this has happened to me before too.

I have a Kenwood KDC-MP 4028 car stereo that I need to unlock the code.

Unfortunately Kenwood codes are only available from the Main Dealer or by using a Radio Decoding Service who will connect a laptop to read the working code inside your radio`s memory chip (EEPROM)

I bought the car at Carmax and there was no manual for the radio. Now after the car was worked on and the battery shut off, the radio is asking for a password?? It's a Kenwood KDC- MP 4032

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/search?q=KDC- MP 4032

this is a link to the manual.. your going to find that you cannot reset it or do any thing else to it. have you tried entering the common passwords. also how long ago did you purchase at carmax they will make it right 4 you they should be able to replace it with the factory radio. if its under 30 days you can return your car for a full refund.

It turns off when in high volume

a few things...your speakers may not be a perfect match for the unit. at high volume where the radio starts to distort there is an internal protection circuit that protects the radio...it's kicking in.
solution.  Buy a power amp and take the load off of the radio.
