April 28,2007 Husband and I are looking to replace a 20 yr old Whirlpool 2000 washer/dryer set. I haven't had a delicate washer cycle in 20 years, nor have I had low dryer heat for at least 6 years. I'm looking foremost for reliability, good service if I need to call, and the ability to wash king size comforters is a must have. I've already read Consumer Reports (items too new) and ePinions (half like them half don't) and after seeing this pair at the store I am very conflicted now over what I should be looking at. Do any of you washing repair guru's have any insight over what washer/dryer pair I should be looking at and/or which would YOU purchase for your family? Thank you.

COMERCIAL GRDAE WASHERS AND DRIERES FOR LAUNDRY-MATS ... ARE MANUFACTURED BY EVERY MANUFACTURE THAT I KNOW OF. YOU CAN BUY A PAIR YOURSELF AT MANUFACTURER OF YOUR CHOOSIN. THEY COME WITH-OUT THE MONEY BOXES ... THOSE ARE ADDED TO THE MACHINE . THESEE MODELS HAVE NO BELLS AND WHISTLES AND HAVE X-TRA LARGE CAPACITY COME IN A SIZES TO FIT YOUR HOME AND REALLY LOOK NO DIFFERENT THAN A RESIDENTIAL MODEL. MY DAD LIKED FORDS AND WOULNT BY A CHEVY I8F HIS LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. MAYBE J.C. PENNY IS YOUR STOR THAT IS UP TO YOU. IF I WERE BUYING A WASHER AND DRIER TODAY !!! I WOULD GO TO A J.C. PENNY, SEARS, OUTLET OR WHAT EVER STORE YOUR FAMILY LIKES. THEY ALL SELL COMERCIAL !!! GRADE WASHERS AND ALL HAVE THERE OWN REPAIRMEN. THEY HAVE SRATCH AND DENT SALES THAT I GET MY!!! OWN PERSONAL APPLIANCES FROM AND ONLY BUY MYSELF !!! COMERCIAL GRADE IN ALL APPLIANCES. THESE COMMERCIAL WASHERS AND DRIERS ARE HEAVIER, BUT MOST ARE SELF LEVELING. ONCE YOU PUT IT IN PLACE IT WILL NOT SHAKE ACROSS THE FLOOR ... "COMMERCIAL GRADE" OR "LAUNDRY-MAT TYPE" ARE THE KEY WORD HERE ... THEY HAVE YOUR BASICS AND THATS ALL !!! JUST LIKE A CAR THE MORE DO-DADS YO AD TO YOUR CAR THE MORE TRIPS TO THE SERVICE STATION.
Frieda, At our home we have a Kenmore 80 series super capacity plus. Washing comforters is no problem. Any of your basic top loaders with super capacity should do the job. The Oasis and Cabrio, both made by Whirlpool, is a very well designed machine. They had an issue with a F51 code, where some factory coating sprayed on the sensor harness sent a wrong signal to the control board. The fix is easy and I believe this problem is going away. Other than that, I've had no repair calls on these models other than that problem. The new Maytag top loaders have been redesigned now and are direct drive models, no belts, basically the same as the Kenmore. You may want to look at those. Service is service, Joe Rex is right on with his post. Good techs and not so good techs. Some issues on appliances can take some time to figure out. So all in all I would recommend any Kenmore super capacity plus. The HE 3 front loader is excellent. The Oasis or Cabrio is excellent. If the comforter is a California King, I would take it to a laundromat. This is just one techs view that's been working on these things for 30 years. Hope this eases your mind about the Oasis. Catriver..post back.
SEARS SELLS AND REPAIRS KENMORE PRODUCTS. THEY ARE REASONABLY PRICED AND HAVE GOOD WARRANTIES. THE BEST PART IS THEY HAVE THERE OWN SERVICE AND MAITENCE DIVISION IN ALL MAJOR CITIES. BUY A WASHER AND DRIER WITH JUST THE BASIC CONTROLS ... ALL THE NIFTY STUFF IS JUST THAT ... NIFTY STUFF THAT IS USELESS. YOU DONT NEED 20 ERROR CODES TO TELL YOU WHAT IS GOING WRONG WHEN HALF THE TIME ITS THE LOGICBOARD THAT IS DEFECTIVE. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT BUYING ANY WASHERS AND DRYERS WITH "FUZZY LOGIC" OR MODELS THAT HAVE ALL THE LATEST "BELLS AND WHISTLES". ALL REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND ARE JUST SOMETHING ELSE TO GO BAD. I HAVE BEEN IN THE HVAC&R BUISNEES AND HAVE REPAIRED ALL MAJOR APPLIANCES FOR OVER 40 YEARS ... WITH ALL THE NEW GAGETS ... I AM GLAD I AM RETIRED.

Thank you for your reply. I have absolutely NO problem with having a pair without the bells and whistles -- unfortunately I haven't found a basic pair that will handle the king size comforter -- I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction for that?
The advice for Sears is okay...it's just that Sears is inconsistent. My father has had multiple problems with Sears repairs regarding both a refrigerator and a television set over the past few years, prompting him to write a letter to the CEO (he hoped it would get to him anyway) with several copies up the line. They eventually did do something, but it wasn't satisfactory and my father tends to avoid Sears for this inconsistency with service. From some of the replies, it's over 2 weeks to repair this model for some, and others get an immediate replacement. Looks like if I go with Sears I need to ask a LOT of questions first.
Meanwhile, I am still looking for any advice over what model of plain consumer household washer would handle a king size comforter?
Thanks to all of you for the answers. I pretty much already knew I should be looking at plainer models. I had already been trying to find a plain front loader without all the computer boards (thank you Joe Rex) but that is what most seem to have now. Catriver, I will go look at the Kenmore 80 series. My husband is extremely interested in the (newer?)Oasis HE Canyon size as he wasn't crazy about the front loaders with my back issues and moldy smell from the opinions. Are you saying they have elminated the coating so it isn't an issue now or they might still need to come out? The largest comforter we have is a regular King (mattress was too thick for a Queen but it's VERY Puffy and I have trouble drying it in a commercial dryer. I hang a lot out to dry during warm months, so the dryer isn't the problem. I really want washer capacity and capability. I was looking at them all at Sears and Best Buy but I see I need to look closer and ask more questions. This is truly the site to ask! Guest, I didn't think stores like Sears and JCPenney would carry commercial grade, but Whirlpool and other dealers might. In fact, I don't think JCPenney carries appliances anymore, but Best Buy and others do. I can go there and ask also. LG seems to be recommended, but again, I look for service after the sale. It's important to me.
babypinkice, Roper products have just been so-so for me. Â I think they are a better product now than they used to be. Â Also, I'm in OK and didn't think this list was for selling anything, especially giving a cut off reply by date that is only 9 days away.
