You will find (normally in the bottom right) 2 rows of pins sticking out of the motherboard. Some of these will have connections to them with wires coming out and going to the front of your cumputer. Look for a free space usually about 2 or 3 pins, marked PWR, O/I or PSW. Alternatively it may be color coded Blue or Green is usually the color for the power switch. I have attached a picture of an e machine motherboard showign the location of the connections
One of hte pins might be marked with a + this can be ignored if you are just connecting the power switch.

SOURCE: i have a e-machine T-2885 that had the wires pulled out

most of the time there is a key although it may be feint directly below the pins for the power button wires showing exactly where they need to go if not you can search for a diagram on the motherboard manufacturers website

Testimonial: "very good, thanks, i know about the key but its not readable so next step i guess would be to seek out the motherboard manufacturor. thanks"

I added a dvd+/-r drive to my e machine T3065. I cannot get the system to write to the drive. I can read a cd on the drive but cannot copy anything to the drive any suggestions?

Reloaded the factory restoration disk? You rock!
Haven't heard of anyone who still has their disk, for YEARS now!

I imagine the DVD burner software was probably Nero.
Nero's good. But I would like to recommend a free burner software.
One I have used for years. (When I use it, lol!)

Infra Recorder,

3) Download page,

You have to have DVD burner software, in order to copy with a DVD drive. (Or CD burner drive)

One more thing glancing at your problem heading you stated;

I do not see DVD-R/W, listed. It has to be a Read/Write DVD unit, in order to copy. A DVD 'Burner'.

Post back in a Comment. Also would appreciate if you would post the DVD drive manufacturer, and it's model number.

[Motherboard used in an eMachines T3065 is an FIC AU31.

(Just for reference, not advertising)

Click on FIC AU31 in blue, for the motherboard manual.

(PDF file. May take as much as 30 seconds, before the first page comes up. There is a way to save a copy to your computer. This way you can burn it to CD disk, and delete it from your computer to save harddrive space. {Once you have checked out the copy, that is)

My t3065 e machine was powered down manually 1 week ago when I got back to it to turn it on nothing happens, the power cord and wall plug are fine

Perhaps during the interlude that the eMachines wasn't being used, there was a power outage, or lightning struck nearby.

The first hardware component that I would check, would be the Power On switch, and Power Supply.

Bypass the Power On switch to see if the problem is the Power On switch, or the Power Supply.

If bypassing turns the Power Supply on, the problem is the Power On switch.

If bypassing does Not turn the Power Supply on, the problem is the Power Supply.

Inside the plastic Power On button, is a Power On switch.
It is a Momentary Contact Switch.

Below is one example of a Power On switch, I have found to fit many computers.

http://www.directron.com/atxswitch.html

Bypassing is done with a jumper wire, inserted into the back of the 20/24-pin ATX main power cable connector.

The jumper wire Briefly, touches the Soft Power On wire (Green) terminal down in the connector, and ANY Ground terminal. (Black)

I listed 20/24-pin above, because I don't know if the T3065 uses a 20-pin ATX main power cable connector, or a 24-pin ATX main power cable connector.

Below is an example of a 20-pin ATX main power cable, and it's corresponding connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain20

The photo all the way to the Right, shows the back of the connector.
It is plugged into the motherboard.

The Front of the connector is plugged into the female socket on the motherboard.
The Back of the connector is shown, and this is the area the power wires go down into.

Here you can see the green Soft Power On wire.
ANY of those Black wires are Ground wires.

I have Not detailed this procedure yet.

Do Not attempt it until I do.

I want to know first, if you are interested in doing the procedure, and will also outline any safety issues involved.

POWER SUPPLY NOT RUNNING T3065

Dead in the water?

Power supplies, depending on your demand, can cost you as little as 35 bucks. However, eMachines, power supply physical design is a bit different than most. Here is how you can bench test your supply to rule out any other problems. Unplug your machine. Make a simple diagram of what cables from the supply goes to what, including the ones that go to the motherboard. Next, Disconnect all of that. On the large cable that connected to the motherboard and locate the green wire. Now find, somewhere other than inside your pc. A small piece of wire (with both ends stripped of insulation) to use as a jumper. Stick this wire in the hole where the green wire ports to and the other end to any black wire port. Plug your supply back into the wall. If the PS is good it will fire right up. If not, you need to replace it.

Hope this helps!

The network connection is causing short

It's normal for a switch to flash some when a new device is plugged in. Of course, things should normally settle down within a few seconds.

First question. Are you hooking up both ethernet connections? If so, don't do this as that will cause problems unless you are using managed switches and configure the links properly on both ends. The behavior you describe would be consistent with creating a loop in the network like this.

Assuming the above is not the case and you still have a problem, you'll need to snoop into the network a bit to find the cause of what's going on. Since the network is being locked out by this it's almost certainly some bad broadcast traffic which is hitting all ports. The good news is that if that is the case it's pretty easy to capture.

Go to www.wireshark.org and download wireshark. It's free and pretty easy to use. Load it on any computer attached to the switch and experiment around a bit with starting captures and sorting through the packets to get an idea of what normal traffic on your network looks like.

After this, plug the offending computer in and see what happens. The problem packets will probably be very obvious although what they mean or how to fix things might not be so obvious. If this is the case, just post what you find and we'll take it from there.

Good luck and let me know if you run into any problems.
