I cannot seem to scan from my Canon MX700 to my iMac. I have reinstalled the drivers from the disk.  The scan button appears but when I click it says "scan filed".  When I try it through the software, it lists the printer but not the scanner.

I never had problems w/this using OS 10.5. I installed 10.6 and it seems to have undone so many settings. Having said that, I never noticed that the 'use scanner driver' box had become unchecked. I'd been trying everything possible to fix the problem, and the ONLY problem was an unchecked box. Take a look. Make sure it's checked. Also, my iMac is getting sluggish - took a really long time for the scanner window to open. At first I thought it wasn't working.

I realized my mistake by searching in spotlight for ScanGear and the MP470 series Scanning Guide opened up. Followed through guide and * doh * problem was staring right at me. ** smh **

How to factory reset iMac without login or keyboard?

To factory reset an iMac without a login or keyboard, you can try the following steps:
  1. Boot the iMac in Target Disk Mode: Connect the iMac to another Mac using a Thunderbolt cable. Power on the iMac while holding down the T key. The iMac should appear as an external disk on the other Mac.
  2. Reinstall macOS: Open the Disk Utility app on the other Mac and select the iMac disk. Choose "Erase" and follow the on-screen instructions to erase the iMac's drive. After erasing, quit Disk Utility and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall macOS.
  3. Restore from Time Machine Backup: If you have a Time Machine backup of the iMac, you can restore the backup to the iMac after reinstalling macOS.
If these steps don't work, you may need to seek assistance from an Apple Store or a professional repair service.

What is the profile of the mx700? On my desktop I could Click on mx700 and then scan to e-mail. On my laptop the want to know the profile.

Hello!

It only means that driver of Canon MX700 is not compatible with the operating system of your laptop.
Download the drivers from the link below:
http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx700#DriversAndSoftware

Make sure to select the correct operating system, then click the Drivers.

Good Luck!

We are experiencing a problem with scanning.

Ok... not sure if this resolves the issue for brigitteserr but just some general tips.

The Scan button will only work if you have installed a suitable scanner based software packed on your computer. As a general rule this is the Navigator software for your Canon model as provided with your driver disk (or on the Canon website).

Personally I would recommend that instead of using the scan button on the printer, you initiate any scanning from your software and then work from there as all the scan button does is initialise the program and nothing else.

Hope that helps.

Canon Pixma MX700 Scanner Problem

I was having the same problem, and thanks to the person who posted solution number two which simply highlighted the fact that the apparently software that came with the Canon Pixma MX700 unit is not compatible with Window Vista.

The reason I was confused is because the printer was working perfectly fine across the network, but when I went to scan my computer would tell me that it can't communicate with the scanner. I'm thinking ... "well since you can communicate with the printer, you should be able to communicate with the scanner, after all, they're the same device!"

As a workaround, I used a third party program to do the scan (in this case, Photoshop) and everything worked fine. If you have Photoshop, just go to file > import to start the scan. If you don't have Photoshop, I would think whatever program you are using for image editing may have the same functionality.

Hope that helps,
Brian
