Question about Beverage-Air MT45 Beverage Cooler Commercial

Is It A Cooler or a Freezer?

I purchased a 3-door glass-front MasterBilt unit (used) from a guy on Craigslist. He told me it was a cooler and / or freezer. But, no matter where I set the thermostat the box termperature drops to 20 degrees or slightly less.
The box temp. has been around 40-50 degrees for the last 2 weeks probably because it was iced up. I would really like to use this unit as a freezer and not a cooler.

Last Friday I found the evaporator coil iced up so I called a local refrigeration tech out. He cleaned all the coils with a solution and told me to clean the evaporator fan blades. He put gauges on the compressor and the low side was running at 45 psi. with the box at room temperature (around 70 degrees). He said it didn't need refrigerant and it is running R12. He told me to let it run for a couple of days and see what it does. When I came in the store this morning there was ice on the side of the compressor and going up the line to the evaporator coil and I don't think the compressor EVER shuts off. I also cannot find a defrost heater anywhere around the evaporator.

I am thinking about replacing the thermostat but not sure if that is what's causing it to ice up. Here are the numbers that I found on the unit.

MasterBilt Model # BMC O

Thermostat #19-00903 -Technician said it looks like it's been replaced. This is a pigtail type thermostat that slides in between the coils of the evaporator.

Sorry this is so long, but hopefully someone can help me sort this out.

UPDATE to cooler and or freezer?

I called MasterBilt and they gave me an engineer who said the model # is BMG - 80. It is a mid-cool unit meaning the temp range is 34 - 38 degrees. So it is NOT a freezer. So that issue was solved.

I also told the engineer about the compressor running all the time and he told me to replace the thermostat. I did that today and the unit is running perfect now. It's not icing up and it cycles off and on while keeping the temp at 36 degrees. I hope this helps someone in the future who has similar problems.

If the unit is a freezer there has to be a defrost clock somewhere and it has to have heaters on evap coil and in or around the drain in unit. When a compressor ices up that usually means the coil in the unit is frozen as well. Give me more #'s off compressor and I can tell yu if it's supposed d to maintain medium temp, or low temp. this should help you. ;)

With no heaters or defrost timer, it is most likely not a freezer unless someone removed all that. As best as I can tell, I can not find anything that equates to the temperature and pressures you related to. It could be either low on Freon or the R-12 has been removed and an alternate Freon installed to replace it. Hope this helps.

The starting components on the compressor could be going bad. You need to turn off the thermostat and then after about five minutes turn it on while listening to the compressor to hear if it kicks in, if it doesn't then you might have faulty starting component, more likely the overload.

SOURCE: I have an older beer cooler. the fan costantly

You would need to be a certified refrigeration technician to even buy R-12, since it is a CRC refrigerant. The kegerator probably doesn't have service ports so you would either have to braze a low-side port in or use a piercing valve, and fix wherever the refrigerant leaked out from. Basically, by the time you pay a refrigeration tech to do all this, it isn't worth it and you would be better off buying a new one

It is possible to take apart a Whirlpool wine cooler door to replace the tempered thermal glass unit inside. Door is stainless steel with plastic insert on inside with gasket in the plastic insert. I

It is likely a double glassed unit, You can try and slide a thin bladed knife like the snap blades between the glass and the rubber and cut it away., You may be better to take it to a glass company that make DGU (double glazed unit) and they will be able to produce another piece o glass for it and put it back through the machine to make it a new unit.

Why is my upright igloo freezer not staying close

The door sometimes warps and need to be lightly twisted back to where all four corners make contact and seal.
Your unit may need to be tilt back a bit so the door wants to close y itself, the front foot pegs are adjustable and can be turned to make the front higher or lower than the back side of the cooler, gravity closes the door when the unit is leaning back.

A Delfield Mdl 6151-S 2 door stainless freezer into a cooler? Change thermostat? It cost me $25 . Factory service says it's not practical. What is practical?

to do it right, you gotta get technical. Need to know the BTU rating of the evap coil. Then match the compressor/ condenser coil and the expansion device to the same BTU rating. Can prove to be somewhat expensive. Your unit probably has a 3/4 h.p. compressor. This is pretty big for a 2 door unit. Probably too big, but again, gotta get the technical on all that stuff.

Magic chef wine cooler

That means couple of things. The cooler's glass door is poorly insulated, and the cooler is placed in a humid environment. To eliminate the sweating you can run a dehumidifier close to the cooler, or you can insulate the inside of the door with styrofoam but that's going to spoil the look of the cooler.

My 3 glass doors cooler

There are generally 2 reasons why this would happen. The defrost timer or heater has gone bad. Or, the fan is not working. Because you state that it runs all day long, I would think that the coils are now a block of ice and cannot cool. In any case, manually defrost it now. Turn off the power and use a hair drier on low (not hot) setting. This should fix the electrical cost for now. Then you can determine if the fan is running properly, or the defroster.
