Damage is NOT the only way this happens. You can re-format the drive to FAT32 and the same thing will occur. The boot files are corrupt or gone as in a re-format. So the fix is to re-install the software or firmware dloaded from iriver.com or iriveramerica.com. I believe it's v1.23.

If your unit will not accept the software/firmware then there's obvious damage to the HD.

Dead Hard Drive. Thats all i can tell you. Did you hit a huge pothole or drop it today? With the way firmware is today you'll juest need to send him in. Sorry to say it, but that's the solution! thanks! Let me know of any followup needed

This is a bad or corrupted HDD, or a drive head being damaged. The only solution is replacing the hard drive unfortunately.

This hurts my status, I'd appreciate you ranking this as solved or something since this honestly is the only solution to your problem! Thanks!

Iriver IHP 120 taking 15 minutes to boot

your hard drive is just fine (i have a ihp100 with a 30 gb). it all depends on the amout of track and type files on the ihp -120. but getting back to speeding up your boot time (try ROCKBOX) www.rockbox.org you can still have your 120 with a less than 30 second boot up time, customize equalizer, while playing screens and more. and you are right the new players do match up to ours.

Boot failure or just nothing?

Boot failure would be the hard disk.
Just nothing would indicate that the system board is dead.

You don't mention using the mains power adaptor.

Boot failure

1st go to Ihttp://www.shamrockman.net/ and dload the version you want to run. My PMP shows 1.23 but I couldn't find that version so I now run 1.24.. Save the dloads in a new folder on your computer.. There should be (7) items that dload to your computer.

*** I have found that just copying the files to your PMP Player will NOT work.***

I had to delete ALL (7) of the system files and folders.
1.) BMP folder
2.) etc folder
3.) system file
4.) (4) "Version-[0x..... " files..

So there were (7) items I had to delete. Once deleted go to the folder you saved the dloads to. I had to click and drag each item to the drive your PMP player is connected to. Once all (7) items have been placed on your PMP player disconnect it, turn off the power, wait a minute and turn it back on. These steps worked PERFECTLY for me. Please let me know in this forum if this helps..

Thanks..
