I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop with a Toshiba Hard Drive. Keep getting a Disk read error message at start up with Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart. Can only get into bios and, when there, the diagnostic on the hard drive I get a Test Status #1- 07 Fail. I don't have a boot disk so I can't change the boot order. Any help?

Sound like the had drive died.

Here is the support page for your product. If you do not have the reinstall CD , they can usually be obtained from the manufacture.

Toshiba satellite A135 At the power on disk read error comes on & says press ctrl+alt+del to restart, but after restarting, the same reading comes on!

Disk read error is, most likely, a bad hard drive. Seeing this message means that the operating system (Windows) didn't even get a chance to load before running aground. This model uses 2.5" SATA drives and 80G is the smallest size ever sold. You can probably get a replacement drive (new or used) locally or thru eBay or Amazon, and they should be pretty cheap (new ones should run for about 20 cents to 25 cents per gig. That'd be your best bet.

hi there, a disk read error doesn't sound like a CD drive to me. It sounds like a hard drive failure to me. My advice is to take out the hard disk and take it to a person that knows about hard drives.

Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart error

Is it a black screen right when you boot your computer? If so this could be a fatal disk error and the harddrive has crashed.

There is no easy fix other than to replace the harddrive.

TOSHIBA A135-S2386- I HAVE AN ERROR WHEN TURNING ON MY LAPTOP

You most likely have a faulty hard drive, especially if it is making a clicking sound.
You wil need to purchase a new hard drive and install Windows again with the Toshiba Recovery CD.

A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart

Since the bios hard drive test passed , ujr hard drive is ok and mostly all ur data is ok . Only windows went corrupt (normally it doest when u turn off that way ) reinstall it dont use the recovery disks , but use a windows installation cd to re-install windows , but take care that when u install ,install on a different partition and remember to take the option leave the current partition intact without changes , so that none of ur data is disturbed.

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.
