Not the lid switch, have tried 2 reconditioned timers and both do the same thing as our original timer, which is click around, empty, fill and now not even moving the bowl at all. Also have replaced the capacitor. Trying to work this out without spending much more money if possible. Any help greatly appreciated.

Does the motor run when it is trying agitate or spin? Also, what is the model number listed on the machine?

  • Anonymous Oct 05, 2012

Hoover 500 MB Not running on any cycle except fill and drain

  • Anonymous Oct 05, 2012

No sound at all when it should be agitating, but when it should be spinning or spray rinsing it sounds like the noise it makes at the end of the drain cycle and it makes that noise until the timer clicks to it its next setting

Let me look through my database, I may have the service manual for that model. Give me a little bit to look as I have quite a few manuals to look through. If you have a few minutes to spare. Please take a look at my website I just started kinda like FixYa. It has forums as well and I would love to get some feedback on the site. The address ishttp://appliancecafe.com and I will look for that manual for your model. I don't think I have it on my forum yet but I am adding manuals daily on my site. Thanks in advance!

OK, I have found the manual but it is a hard copy and not on my computer. Give me a few minuets as I have to type all the information out for you. It should not take more then 10 minuets or so.

99% of those problems are with the lid switch. Check make sure it is functioning properly.

This problem will be one of two issues with your hoover 600Mb. First of all, the motor controller, located in the top panel, between the timer and the water valves. Its a plastic unit that controls the agitation and spin cycles on the machine. These clap out sometimes and become intermittent in the wash an spin cycles, or stop working altogether. Secondly, If your machine does it on the wash cycle, every time you use it (Not wash on the regular part of the timer) then it will more than likely be the timer that is the problem. The 165 and 167 timers were are known to not be that good and the 500MD 500MB 600M & 600MD machines all suffered from timer trouble at some point in time. It ticks away at various points but nothing happens. A lot of them stop at the pre-rinse and needed to be manually clicked around one notch to continue and finish the pre-rinse and spin cycle.

SOURCE: Admiral Washer model #LNC6757 will not agitate

Possibly a loose agitator, try lifting the agitator, if it lifts then it is un secure, remove the softener cap and down inside the agitator you will see the fixing bolt,
You will need to lift out the agitator to retrieve the bolt if it has come fully un done, refit the agitator and secure using a socket and long extension bar.

SOURCE: Roper top loading washer not spinning or agitating

Hi

If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

  • The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

  • The motor coupler may be broken. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.

  • A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

  • The clutch may be worn. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

  • The transmission may not be shifting properly. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

  • The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.
If your washer doesn't agitate, check these:

Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Motor coupler Many washers produced by Whirlpool® use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. If this happens, you need to completely replace it.

Belts Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

Drive motor Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

Drive pulleys The motor or transmission drive pulley may be worn and unable to turn the drive belt. If so, replace the pulley.

Transmission The transmission could have either of these problems:

  • Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may not agitate properly or at all.

  • The transmission may have a worn or broken gear, or some other internal problem.

If you suspect a transmission problem, you may have to call a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

Agitator The inside of the agitator--where the transmission shaft attaches--can become worn, and strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. Then the transmission shaft rotates back and forth as it should, but the agitator doesn't move properly. If this happens, you may need to replace the agitator and/or the transmission spline.

Thanks

Wont agitate or spin everything else working

hi Paulmahoney.
If your washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. (Note: Direct-drive washing machines do not have belts.) To diagnose the problem, do the following: 1Check the washing machine's spin cycle.

Kenmore 70 series Washing Machine will not spin sometimes. Fills, agitates, drains all correctly but only sometimes starts spinning.

Could be article of clothing stuck between plastic tub and metal basket. If not that, then most likely clutch or basket drive is bad.

I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care 2 Imperial Series washer that doesnt spin out very well. It will sometimes spin out but leaves the clothes very damp. Sometimes the washer will try to spin itself out but ...

First thought is that the cycles are off.we have the same problem with ours right now. That slow spin speed concerns me. The motor could be going bad. If this washer is 10-12 years old, you may want to look at replacing it. Does the machine ever start agitating before it finishes filling. If so, the cycle mechanism is going bad. This has a whole host of potential problems. Ave a rep look at it. He can narrow it down quickly.

Not emptying after wash

I would check the lid switch first. Sometimes the lid switch doesn't hit the switch right and the washer will fill and agitate normally and when it is time to drain and spin it will just sit there and do nothing.

The washer fills and empties but no spin or agitate

I assume by empties you mean it pumps the water out.
That being the case you will need a way to make sure the timer is sending power to the motor. If it is emptying by itself then you have a siphon problem and need to raise the drain hose exit above the top of the washer or install a siphon break.

Kenmore mod 110 agitator turns while water fills tub

Check your pump and drain for a blockage.
You also could have a timer connection issue. Remove the timer wire connectors and reattach them. The timer simply has a quick connection block, sometimes they get a little loose and all you gotta do is push it all the way back in. Check for a loose lid hinge and safety switch also.

Sounds like you may a bad lid switch. Do you hear any clicking noise when the lid gets shut. The clicking noise is the lid switch activating.
