I had a leaky print head in my PRO9000 Mark II and replaced it with another. The printer did not recognize it as the proper head. The same head was recognized in my PRO9000. So I figure it isn't the head. Maybe the carrier? The old head worked, identical part #. As I write I am waiting to try resetting the printer, but I have my doubts. I don't want to buy another head just to get the same message.

Use a Q-Tip and some clean water to clean the contacts behind the cartridge in the printer and on the cartridge itself. Then use a pencil with a clean eraser to polish the contacts. Be careful not to touch the part where the ink comes out of the cartridge.
Also, are you using Canon ink or third party?

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

Hello!
Remove the cartridges and gently wipe the cartridge contacts with a dry cloth, then put them back in. Then, hold the "resume" button for 10 seconds for each cartridge, that
should reset them.
If that doesn't work, one of your cartridges (sadly) needs to be replaced.

I should add that it's not the ink cartridges, it's the head that they go into.
Still unsolved. It may be a problem with the print head carrier or that one print head. But after days of soaking it was restored to acceptable performance. Still a mystery why it won't accept other heads. Buying a new one would be a **** shoot, not knowing why it rejected the other, which works just fine in my other pro9000. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
any luck??
