I'm not a very technical person. I bought an external DVD burner to use with my laptop to recird movies off my video camera. The problem is that I cant get it to work. I've tried Nero7 and Sonic MyDVD Plus and also the program that came with my Video camera, in every case it gets almost to the end and freezes (time elapsed keeps ticking over but time remaining stays still), or it simly says cannot write to disk.
Its really annoying me.
(it burns music cds just fine)

Re: EXTERNAL DVD PROBLEMS
I think the problem, if its a video dvd you are burning is the read in read out that it cannot finish, so thats either a corrupt video file that cannot be read, as burning is the last thing a writer does after caching the image or you need to try a different brand of dvd.
A tip is also try to burn at a slower speed as sometimes a faster speed results in more dvd glass coasters.

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8
You can still use and activate your external burner. Most external DVD burner drive is USB right? So you just plug in the usb plug of your burner in your laptop and it will automatically detected by the system and install the neccessary driver for it to work properly. If you do have an existing burner software in your laptop then you can also use it for burning DVD's and CD's to your external burner but if you don't have any, then install a burning software like NERO or any. Hope this could help you. Please don't forget to rate me..:-) Thanks..
Well you can rip your DVD to any external drive using and third party DVD ripping software ,once you do that you will get a AVI,MPEG and any common fomats your DVD player supports
Inorder to play those files in your DVD player ,you need the check whether your DVD has a USB input port or else if you laptop or computer has a S-video out put and your TV has S-Video input ;you can play directly from your laptop/computer to the TV using a S-video Cable which is available in any Computer shop.
I hope this helps
