Malfunctioning of nikon coolpix 5400 digi tal camera
When i view an object prior to shooting the picture, i do not see the object on the lcd screen. instead i see only horizontal streaks of lights. if i shoot the picture the same streak of light comes in the picture also. this problem was appearing occasionally and now it has become permanent. If i call the pictures back, the earlier picture shot are being retrieved properly which suggests that there is nothing wrong with the memory card. i have charged the battery completely and tried but the result is the same streaks of light. what i see through the optical view finder is not appearing on the ccd screen. please help me.

This appears to be a well known CCD problem, which Nikon acknowledges only for the COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ models.
Nikon denies the CCD problems on the 5400 are related, even though a Google search for this problem returns numerous results which claim the same defective Sony CCD sensor was used in the 5400 as was used in the 3100, 5700, and SQ models.

Sorry to tell you this but your CCD is gone. In a fwe days time pics will be black in color. CP 5400 uses a batch of defective Sony CCD's. Nikon's service center in Kolkata, India replaced the CCD in my CP 5400 free of cost. This was because Nikon has issued a service advisory. Try your luck with the Nikon service center closest to your home!
