Noisy agitator I bought my Whirlpool washer in fall 2004; recently it's started making VERY LOUD agitating sounds, even with light loads. When it's agitating even with a small load, it sounds like it's jam packed full and is really straining hard to get the work done. Any ideas? I'm not extremely proficient with do-it-yourself repair jobs, but if it's relatively easy, I'll try it!

My washer is making a loud nosie when agitation starts

That is a normal sound when the transmission shifts from the last spin cycle to go into the agitate cycle. It should make a loud click sound that does not last longer than a second. There is nothing wrong with your washing machine.

Kenmore 80 topload washer agitation cycle noisy and high current

Sounds like a motor problem drawing to many amps dimming lights. Check drain pump to see if pump has obstruction in it causing resistance. Run machine while pump is off to see if light dim.

Loud clicking while agitating

You may have debris stuck in the pump.
This can cause the clicking sound and also bind the pump causing a circuit overload.

Whirlpool washer agitates but makes a very loud noise

It sounds like the agitator teeth, that are plastic, are worn out. To check this, take the agitator cap off with a strong knife or flat-head screw driver, and check the circular teeth inside, to see if they are worn out. These plastic teeth are the agitator part of the washer, where as the spinning part is a metal set of teeth, at the bottom of the agitator. You see the metal teeth, when you take the agitator completely out. You will have to replace the agitator if the teeth are worn out.

Spin and agitator not working

VERY POSSIBLY THE MOTOR/GEARBOX COUPLING HAS BROKEN. NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. SWITCH WASHER OFF THEN TILT WASHER 60 DEGREES BACKWARDS AND CHECK COUPLING. THERE IS A KIT WHICH CAN BE BOUGHT. DEFINATELY A D.I.Y. REPAIR.
