if you connect composit video from your DVD player to the "Y" jack of the tv then you will get only a black and white picture .. the composit video out of your DVD has to be connected to the composit video input of the TV .. or if you have component outputs on your DVD then you can hook those up to the "three" component inputs of the tv .. (you have to have all three hooked up plus 2 audio cables ..
Hey, I had this problem on Thanksgiving Day, trying to watch a dvd on
my mother's HDTV. You should be able to hook up most standard dvd
players to hdtvs. First you have 3 cords, mine were red, yellow, and
white. The connections go as follows:
Audio| Component. The white cord should be in a white audio slot. The
yellow cord should be in a yellow component slot (video) and the red
cord should be in a red video component slot labeled Pr/Cr. Make sure you match the component numbers. For instance, if you want to use component one,
then hook all of the cords into the slots for component one. Most hdtvs
have multiple component hookups ( think multiple "channels" for your
game system, dvd player, etc) so it's important that the corresponding
cords go to the correct component slots.
Match the yellow and white cords to the appropriately colored slots.
The red cord should go into the slot labeled component video out Cr/Pr.
Not the red audio out. This worked for me. Hope this helps.
If you are connected to a HD cale box using component cables IE (G, R & B) then check if either the Red or the Blue has come loose or unplugged as this will cause most HD sets to revert to a black and white picture.
Have you tried to hook up a DVD player or any other source? If so does the color come back? If not then I recommend you call for warranty service if the set is in warranty, sounds like the vidoe processors are bad on the main board
