I had the same problem with mine. It appeared the CCD was faulty. Sony quoted big bucks to fix it so I bought a new camera. Curious about the old camera, I took it apart to see what was inside. To make a long story short, there i a ribbon cable that connects the CCD to the rest of the camera. The problem is that this cable stopped making a good connection. Wiggling it around restored the connection and the camera works just fine.

My sony dsc-w1 got very wet, caught in a rainstorm and did not have the case. I have left it dry out for 4 days and it turns on, lcd works, can read memory stick and display old pictures on the lcd. But...

Maybe the shutter got wet and sticky. You can try look into the lens then press shutter button to take picture. If you don’t see the movement inside the hole, the shutter doesn’t open, it will take black picture.

LCD Display Blank

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)

Sony dsc p51 cyber-shot. screen does not come on for pics. or video

Hi there,

I had the same problem with a P51 camera I bought from ebay. After searching on the internet for possible solutions. I found that this particular model had a problem with a sensor. Some guys recommended to hit the down corner (where the len is located) in your palm. I did it, and amazedly it worked, however, I need to do the same thing every-time the black screen appears. This is a Sony defect, the should replace the sensor. I have heard this solution does not work for everybody. Good luck!
