DVD player wont play with sound or picture not jumping

If your DVD player is not playing with sound or picture and not jumping, there could be a few possible causes:
  1. The connections between the DVD player and the TV or audio system may be loose or damaged. Check the connections and make sure that they are secure and in good condition.
  2. The DVD may be dirty or scratched. Clean the DVD with a soft, dry cloth and check for any scratches or damage. A dirty or scratched DVD may not play properly.
  3. The laser lens of the DVD player may be dirty. The laser lens reads the data on the DVD and if it is dirty, it may not be able to read the data correctly, causing the sound and picture to not play properly. You can try cleaning the lens with a lens cleaning disc or by using a soft, dry cloth.
  4. The DVD player's firmware may be outdated. Firmware is the software that runs the DVD player and if it is outdated, it may not be able to play newer DVDs or may have other issues. Check the manufacturer's website for any firmware updates and instructions on how to install them.
  5. The DVD player may be malfunctioning. If none of the above solutions work, the DVD player may be malfunctioning and may need to be repaired or replaced.

No picture sound only

There is a read situation of the Audio track, thus the head is communicating. The same head has a section called the Video Tracking area whereby the two tracking devices are in sync with each other. If the Reading head has a film or dirt on it, the signal can be blocked; clean it with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. If it still fails to operate, the head may need replacing.

Chrysler town and country; rear seat dvd has no picture. Hear sound. Get picture and sound from Auxillary jacks so it is not the screen. Ran cleaner in player. didn't help

If you are getting sound and picture from the screen's auxiliary jacks, then this only confirms that the screen is faulty. The DVD player must be reading the picture signal as it supplying the auxiliary jacks, but the screen has failed to display the signal.

Clean a DVD disc:
  1. Hold the disc by its central hub and outside edge.
  2. Blow dust from the bottom surface with a can of compressed air.
  3. Clean dirt and fingerprints from the bottom surface with a lint-free cloth dampened with CD/DVD-cleaning fluid or denatured alcohol, wiping from the center outward.
  4. Clean the objective lens:

The dvd player part of this unit doesn't work. When you insert a dvd it makes a sound like a dull beep as the unit appears to try to read the dvd. Then "Read" comes up on the display then there is a...

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. When a Panasonic is giving "no read" and there are loud "clunking" or "chugging" noises this usually indicates that the lens is dirty or has failed. Other problems may include a failing or failed Digital PCB or some problem with the ribbon cables from the DVD Drive to the Digital PCB (on 2006 models such as the DMR-EZ models there is some problem with the ribbon cables to the DVD Drive on-board controller board.
Please check this picture for ribbon cable connections--

Phillips Portable dvd PET824 won't play dvd; no picture or sound

you can try moving the laser lens that reads the dvd's just don't touch the lens just move that little square it's attached. all you have to do is move it back or forth just a little and leave it and try the cd and if that don't work just keep on moving it around until it reads. it'll work i had that problem on my dvd player and my playstation.

45 MINUTES INTO VIEWING A DVD THE SOUND GOES ON AND OFF AND THEN THE PICTURE DISSAPEARS. i HAVE TO RESTART THE VIDEO ONLY FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN

sounds like the dvd player needs cleaning, for what ever reason it is not able to read the dvd. Try a dvd head cleaner, they make them so you can also listen to see if the sound is right.
If it does not do it on every dvd, maybe the dvd needs cleaning or resurfacing
Hope this helps

When playing DVD no sound but VCD sound OK.

dvd are up to 6 times the density of a cd there making the laser eye read much closer rings on the disks. so in other words its having a hard time reading dvd. the only thing you can do is take a cotton swap dipped in alcohol and open the tray look with a flashlight for a small optical eye in exact center of dvd player and rub lightly on it to remove dust build up or spray some canned air into the dvd youll hit it. try it again and if no sound again the computer cant keep up with the dvd or vise versa.

DVD Player turns on spins says reading but there is no picture or sound.

I had same problem and once left the player on for 3 weeks (left for vacation) and it still never worked. Finally had to dissassemble body of player to get dvd out. There appears to be no solution to this problem. I have called it quits and this cheap piece of junk is now in the trash. Koss will never be on my list of best buys.
